2001 U320 Radiator Hoses

After reading a few posts it seems I may have to measure then order these hoses...unless someone has the part numbers for these 3 hoses.

1st picture: 1 hose from lower radiator and the other to trans cooler.
2nd picture: Hose from trans cooler to long pipe to water pump

Just need these 3 for now.

Measure the inside diameter and get the better spring loaded hose clamps,I would get every hose on the engine as long as your doing those 3,also clean and paint the elbow, try siliconehose.com and /or Foretravel.

As was mentioned measure and then go to Napa website you can search by diameter. I ended up with 7950 elbows I just cut them a little smaller. The water pump inlet hose I had to get from Cummins, but it was a tight 90.

Since I'm replacing all my coolant I would like to change the 20 year old hoses. Would prefer rated silicone hoses but have been unable to locate part numbers
There is Gates available except for the P33614 doesn't show up when searched, does any one have a part number for it?
Thanks for helping

The hose that goes from radiator to cooler will need to be cut in half and you discard a little under half of it. Keep the spring inside to prevent collapsing. I removed about a third of it and polished the cut edge and bend towards the center of the hose to prevent it from damaging remaining hose.

Scott, did you ever get a number for the Gates P33614?

Scott in a previous post you recommended a coolant vacuum filling tool so I bought one in preparation for my flush and fill.  As I understand it this vacuum will collapse the radiator hoses in use.  Did you find that presented any problems with the spring in the hose or with the short hump hose connectors?

Dylan you are ahead of me in this project.  I'm in the process of acquiring all of the necessary materials and I have found that the Gates 23562 hump hoses are out of stock almost everywhere.  I have them on order from Amazon and it says expected in 3-4 weeks.  By the way we need three of them.
What coolant did you settle on?

Vacuum servicing tool is the way to go. I would be worried about the end wearing threw if you didnt smooth the end and just bend in the last 1/2 inch.

I also ordered the hump hoses on Amazon. I settled on Zerex/Valvoline brand from Napa. Seems to check all the boxes as an ELC for a Cummins and easy to source if catastrophe strikes.

Be sure to get distilled water when you fill the radiator. Also Final Charge is available at all major auto parts stores along with Walmart. I have been using it in my trucks and coaches for years.

Yes sir, picked up enough jugs to do a final flush and add 8 more gallons to my concentrate...16 total for my coach.
I'm assuming final charge is what I add later to boost my ElC? After 3 years (I'll never reach 300k miles)...correct?

Final Charge is the coolant that meets all the specs for Cat, Cummins, and many other diesels.

Just heard a presentation on maintenance from a Spartan Chassis rep and Final Charge is their "go to" coolant. Of course you don't mix it with the old green coolant.

Is there a trick to "burp" the cooling system while filling it up.

I'm using a garden hose to fill it this first time because I'm flushing it with restore plus. Got about 10 gallons in and it wont take anymore.
Should I start the engine and get it circulating?
Do I have to run it until the thermostat opens up to get it full?

I don't know if you can get the thermostat open idling the engine.  Brett has posted that there is always water in the engine after draining.

I have one of those, just was going to use it once I put the coolant and distilled water in at the end. Thought it would be easier to just shove the hose in for the flush process.

Yes, but I believe mine takes 16 gallons, could there still be 6 gallons in the system?

Sure, 4+ is in the block and what is in the 100' of heater hoses to the front. Your results are about the same as I have seen on several coaches that I have done with the M11 block.

Got it, so if I take it for a drive until the thermostat opens I won't have to worry about it being low?

Dylan, did you ever recieve the hump hoses from Amazon?  They keep pushing my order back.  I emailed Gates and received a reply that the part number 23562 is cancled with no replacement... mmh.  I ordered a silicone hump hose coupler from Amazon but that seems to be intended for an intercooler application.  Does anyone have any experience using this type of hose in a coolant application?

I actually forgot about them...so I ordered them on April 30th and Amazon says will be shipped between May 23 and June 2nd. I am a little suspect though because they haven't shipped yet. If Gates says they're discontinued then they probably are and I won't receive them either.  😡

Wanted to follow up with you on the Gates green stripe 23562. I also followed up with Gates and gave them a call. Apparently that specific hose has in fact been discontinued. But...as of today, they have 486 of them in stock. Doing a general search on the web shows that they are out of stock everywhere with no ETA (except Amazon who lets you order them and just doesn't send it).
She also told me to try Fastenal or Motion Industries (or any industrial distributor that sells Gates). So I called Motion and got ahold of a guy named Tim here in Sacramento area. I let him know that Gates said if he ordered them they would ship the product even though it says discontinued on his system.

Get ahold of Motion Industries and find the distributor in your area, then give them a call. In addition to the 23562 part number, try the industry part# 3177-0030.

So that's where I'm at, I ordered 2 of them for $29.99 each. Unfortunately, he can't drop ship them so I'll either need to go pick them up (I live about an hour from Sacramento) or have them shipped to me for additional cost.

Hope this helps...
