Propane tank gauge wiring

I'm installing a SeeLevel system to monitor my tanks.
The propane tank has 2 white wires leading to the tank gauge. One wire is thicker than the other.
 The SeeLevel gauge uses 1 wire from the tank sender.
When I attach either wire to the SeeLevel gauge I get a different reading depending on what wire I attach to.
The Propane tank is empty so I will need to get it filled in order to get an accurate reading.
I just need to know what white wire to attach to.

One of the wires on the sender goes to ground. The other one is the power to sender. Leave the ground wire like it is. The other wire you cut and hook the wire from the see level to the end of wire that is attached to the sender.

Here is a picture of the gauge and the two white wires, one smaller diameter than the other, one mounted in front of the other.

My assumption would be the thicker of the two white wires is the one I need to tap into, but then assuming and electricity don't really dance well together.
Does anybody know for certain?

Lon,

Where are you actually trying to make the connection to the white wire?  I used the existing white wire to supply propane level reading to my SeeLevel panels.  I mounted my "inside the coach" panel on the dash, in the opening formally occupied by the little B&W CRT screen.  This location put me in close proximity to the Audit 1160 brain box.  Using the wiring diagram for the Audit box (located in our excellent Forum library, link below), I was able to easily ID the correct white wire.  I simply tapped into the white wire near the Audit box, and connected it to the wire for the SeeLevel panel.

You could also use a multimeter to check the white wires where they connect to the tank gauge.  Use the "continuity" setting with a tone.  Put one probe on a good chassis ground.  Touch the other probe to each of the two wires.  One wire - the one that goes to ground - will show good continuity...the other wire will not show continuity.  The non-grounded wire is the one you need to tap into to get your propane level signal.

I moved the control panel for the SeeLevel to a new location in the kitchen area of the coach (I have a second SeeLevel control panel that will be mounted in the wet bay).
 I ran a new wire from the propane tank to the new control panel location. I'm not using any of the previous factory installed wiring. The connection will be at the tank.
