compressor wheel damaged and housing done bearing gone. I'm 80 miles from anywhere in Oregon, it's getting cold not really in a position to try and wait on rebuild parts. I have the updated Cummins PN. Located a genuine Holset new turbo in Virginia with the correct clocking. Just have to work out the shipping several of the big truck parts places are looking also.

Bruce hope you get rolling soon, curious how many miles were on the turbo and was it original?

Thanks

May not be the case for Bruce but after rebuilding hundreds of turbos the overwelming failure was oil coking and choking the passages.
Bruce, don,t forget to get some new clamps and charge air hoses,a good way to check a turbo is see if the impeller will spin freely.

it was the original turbo, 150k on it. Hard to tell why it failed no damage to the wheels. Never Been shut down without cool down since I've owned. Oil serviced annually 6-8K miles

Left the CG this morning, under full load waste gate opens at 25 psi, 12-15 psi on flat ground on cruise 68mph. The old turbo must have been failing for some time. The best I could get out of the old turbo was 20 psi.

Let us know any mileage difference.

Old one was 6-8, new one so far is running 8-10 mpg. Time will tell if that's long term. I was on 97 in Or. it's mostly flat.

Bruce that is great to hear. Kinda a pain but should pay for itself in fuel economy and improved drivablity before long.

The turbo never really destroyed its self, I started hearing a noise about a month ago that I couldn't put my finger on. We had been only moving a 100 of so miles at time for a few mos. So I guess it had slowly been failing for quite awhile. 1700 bucks later we are blowing and going.

Are you planning on rebuilding the old one or did you have to send it back for a core?

. Have the old one no core on new ones from Holset. I may rebuild it. I know it will need wheel and housing and full kit. The old on lasted 24 years, so I don't know if I will mess with it.
