Bright fluorescents: too bright?

We rarely use the ceiling lights unless looking for a pin on the floor! We find them a bit too bright, the glare, too white, yet the wall lights do not quite do it and less so as my not ancient but aging eyes require more light to read the newest Grisham triller !
Ordered a pack of these photographic filters Amazon.com : Orange Color Correction Gel Filter Sheet 16x20 inches 4 Pieces... from Amazon  cut them down and put them in all out ceiling lights, the big square uses one, the smaller double bulbs use a half each (perfect amount for a 36' excluding the bathroom but need an extra pack if you are longer) they give you incandescent light bulb color: we love them, may be the romance!
