SEELEVEL strip mounting question

I did not want to hijack the other Seelevel post so I started this thread.
I'm having trouble finding a clear path to mount the black tank strips ( I bought a second kit to get full monitoring of the tanks).
All over the black tank where the strips should be mounted I come across threaded screw points. I don''t believe that mounting a strip over a metal screw point would work. I hesitate to grind on anything on the plastic tank so grinding off the screw points worries me, I don't want to create a real disaster my putting a hole in the tank.
I also worry about mounting the strip on the very edge of the tank as it might give a bad reading.
SeeLevel does not seem to offer a way to send them pictures.

The first post in the thread linked below has a photo of the black and gray tanks on our coach with SeeLevel strips.  They have worked fine for 5 years.  I don't think mounting strip close to the edge is a problem.

I just used one kit and mounted the strips at the top of the waste tanks and the bottom of
the fresh water tank so I know when the waste tanks are getting full and when the fresh water
tank is getting near empty. It work well for me and saved a lot of money. Looking at your tanks
that would work for you. I got the idea from Bob/

I would not mount the see level strips over the top of the metal strip. I peeled ours off. And used two kits because I wanted to be able to check the tank level inside and also in the wet bay.  That will also give you plenty of strips to read the level the full length top to bottom.

I will not mount the strips on top of the metal foil tape, I was just sticking the strips on the tank with masking tape to show the limited options for mounting on my tank. The primary problem is dealing with the threaded studs on the tank.
I bought two kits so I could monitor the entire tank.
Has anybody ground those metal studs off or removed those studs on the tank?

My strips are installed with Gorilla tape, so you could easily install and reposition if necessary.  You could test with the edge mounting like Chuck showed, or even slightly off axis like this.  Test and see what works well for you.

How important is it if stacking the sensor strips to have them line up with one on top of the other?
It does not appear to me that the actual sensors communicate with each other when stacked.
If I moved the bottom sensor over a few inches from the top sensor would that work?
I have not seen or read anywhere that the two sensor need to be within a certain distance from each other to work as long as one sensor is marked TOP. and both tabs are trimmed to ID the correct tank.

If memory serves,, See Level recommends I believe to stager them. I know that I staggered ours and it's been working fine.

Also just an FYI the See Level tech mentioned that if any of the strips would be close to metal ( water line fittings ) you might cover them with a rubber pad to avoid interference.  Home Depot had them.

Having said that I put the pad on with duct tape and 1/2 of it has fallen off. Still no problems yet.

Lon the directions tell you where to cut the strips so they will work when stacked-- I used a flap disc on a angle grinder to clean the tank surface --if you do that just be aware that the sander can go through the plastic very quickly-- if it was me I would probably use the flap disc to take off enough of the metal threads to get the stack in place.  It looks like they (metal Threads) are glued on

I guess the only way to find out if the sensor strips work staggered is to do it. I hesitate because I have to cut the lower strip, if it does not work I lose an entire strip.
My other approach would be to take the water bay apart to get to the drivers side of the black water tank and see if the tank on that side is free from obstructions and offers a flat surface to mount the strips to.

Does anybody have pictures of the wet bay side of the black tank that would be relevant to my 95?
It would be nice to get a look before I tear it apart.

Those strips on the tank are just aluminum foil tape. It should peel right off without to much trouble.
