Door bell rings when stopping engine

I installed a new door button to the door handle and it's working fine except when I turn off the engine it rings on its own. Just one ring as if you pushed the button once.  There must be something that connects the two inputs to the bell but how it connects to an engine stop is just wierd.

No idea how those things could be connected...but to my warped mind it actually seems kinda kool, in a weird way.

Would be a great conversation topic at your next camp fire circle.  I'd probably just leave it like that.

But I would worry if the engine starts when the door bell is rung.

Did you do anything different about running the ground wire or the physical installation of the new button?

Weird behavior of unrelated electrical things is often due to current flowing through an unintended path.  If something isn't grounded quite right, the current will flow through something it shouldn't.

Remember, current flows in a loop.  It goes out the intended feed, does its thing, then returns to the source.  It's going to take the path of least impedence, and if for some reason its intended return path is somehow more difficult, it's going to traverse another conductor that's "easier" to get back home.

A classic response!!!!

Only thing I did was remove old non-working button and replace it attached to the same contacts.  I'm not in a position to take everything apart now but will do so when I can.

The first thing that comes to mind is did you use a normally closed switch by accident. When you cut the power with the ignition there is a quick dead spot in the switch which would loose power to the door bell causing it to release then re-engage. Just a thought.
