Fuel Filter Location Question

Our coach had the fuel filter  / primer replaced with a Racor 790R30 in the spring by the PO.

It does not have much travel time / miles on it yet.  While prepping for some other battery bay refresh items I was looking at the unit and was a little surprised how close the plastic sight bowl was to the CAC inlet pipe, maybe 3/4 to 1" away.  I'm assuming this used the mounting location of the original filter.

For others that have changed to a different setup, is this where yours is located as well?  Is it to close to the CAC inlet pipe or should it be fine?

Steve,

I'm certainly not an expert but....  The CAC inlet pipe will certainly be warm/hot but it's not hot like the turbo exhaust.  I would think that the air gap between them (which will have some airflow) will help a lot.  Also, the fuel flowing through the filter should also provide cooling to the plastic bowl.

You could always wrap a little insulation around the filter.  Even a sheet metal baffle or sleeve would make a difference.

I wouldn't worry about it until you don't have any other projects to work on ;-).

I think I would move it away as you want to keep the fuel cool.

I don't think it should be a issue.
The easiest solution might be is to just wrap some insulation around the pipe by the filter.

Is that the pipe from turbo to CAC or from CAC to intake.

If the latter, temperature should not be a lot above ambient temperature-- that is the function of the CAC.

Then agree, cooler location (particularly if combined with an easier location to service) is a good idea.

Steve,

That is where that filter ends up if you use the original holes from the old filter. The heat for that filter hasn't been a problem but having to change it (the filter) on the side of the road when it is near 100 degrees is a problem with the changer (you) Lot better location is on the right hand frame rail just in front of the A/C compressor. This location lets you stand up to do the change and lot less mess.
