HWH exhaust valve on six pack not closing

On a trip this past weekend I started getting a loud air leak from the rear. When engine was running the air pressure would come up to normal and maintain after a couple of minutes. Now home, I found the problem to be the exhaust valve was not closing on the rear drivers side six pack, unless I push the HWH reset button or unplug the solenoid. I also found a very small leak on the sensor/pressure switch on the back side of the same six pack. Unplugging this switch made no difference in the exhaust valve opening or closing. I did not try to short the wires together for that switch. I know the switch needs to be replaced to fix the small leak but I don't think it will fix my problem. It seems like a computer problem? Anybody have any suggestions?

Brad,

I have no helpful suggestion, beyond simple electrical trouble shooting.  Look at wiring and connections for obvious damage.

You are talking about the "exhaust valve" leaking.  I'm not clear on which valve is leaking.  If your rear 6-pack manifold has the standard 6 solenoids, there are 3 for each side (from top to bottom): travel, lower and raise.

If the solenoid you are unplugging to stop the leak is one of those on the 6-pack manifold, which one is it?

Chuck,

With Jeff's help from Foretravel Tech help we determined it's for the right side tag. We traced it to the relay in the can in the bay with the air compressor but the relay is good. His is going to reach out to HWH to see where to go next.

I talked with James at Foretravel Tech help and he thinks one of the boards are bad in the controller can. I have a request in to HWH to find out if I need to check anything else before I send it in for repair. I'm guessing this will take a while.

I know it has been a few years ago when I sent my display in but getting them to return a phone call was about 7 weeks at the time so figured I would really wait to get a RMA to send my display in but on that got a call back in a few days. Sent the display off and I think maybe two weeks later had a repaired display.  I had my display back before I got my call back on my tech support question.

When this happened to us last year, it turned out to just be the tag exhaust port was stuck.  We plugged the exhaust(it is threaded) and went on our way.  Bought the rebuild kit from Tom and all is well.

I wish it was just stuck, if I unplug the wires going to the solenoid the valve closes every time. I also learned pulling the F9 fuse on the control board will close it.

When I was sorting out control issues I ended up calling Ashley Burke at HWH and asked for a return code and sent my computer to them 800-321-3494. I never did get a call back but like you was confident that I had isolated the issue. The one thing I would do before shipping out is go to your control box and find the connector for the six pack control. Disconnect and verify that you have the power wire that is hot at the solenoid is also hot at the plug at the controller disconnected. Just to eliminate the off possibility wires are damaged in between powering up that circuit??? Side note the shipping to them cost me more than the repair and return shipping. Good luck

Go through the HWH 2000 Service Manual troubleshooting.  Two things to check are of the computer board in the basement is showing the red and green diodes lighting correctly.  Then check voltage at the tag dump solenoid while pushing the dump button.  If you are getting constant power to the solenoid either way then the relay is stuck or the board is bad. I would think that the LEDs for that solenoid would be lit up. I don't know if the relays just plug in but you could try swapping it with another one to rule that out.

I got a call back from Randy at HWH. From him I learned the the dump valve the air was coming from was for the tag lift and it is normally open unless the tag is lifted. He had me check the tag lift valve because air would have to come into the manifold through that valve before air could come out the exhaust. Unplugging it made no difference but after raising and lowering the tag, while the engine was running I noticed the air was not leaking as bad. I removed the solenoid think the problem would be obvious. Nothing really noticeable but I replaced the plunger and orings anyway and it seems to have fixed the problem. Made a trouble free trip to Fredrickeburg over the weekend. Much thanks to the input on the Forum, James and Jeff at Foretravel and Randy at HWH.
