Broken skylight over shower

I need to replace the skylight over the shower.  Anyone got any ideas on where I could get a replacement and not pay an arm and a leg?  The coach will be going on the market soon, and I don't want to spend a lot on it.  Btw, if anyone is looking for a used U320, I plan to use Sexton auctions, and will be be asking $15K.

I found one at Home Depot a few years ago and bought it to have if ours ever broke.

Use the search function on the Forum to find old threads about replacing the skylight dome.

To be sure you get the right size replacement, you should remove the outer metal hold-down frame so you can measure the exact size of your old plastic dome.  If it is the same as the one on our '93 model U280, you will need a dome that measures exactly 24" x 24" at the outside edge of the mounting lip.  Anything smaller would not work.  A dome that is slightly larger might work with some trimming of the outer edges.

You don't want to have to remove the original metal base unless absolutely necessary.  It is screwed down with MANY screws, plus well sealed with white goop.  If at all possible, you want to reuse the metal base, which requires replacement domes with the correct dimensions.  The one I bought many years ago at Lowes was advertised to fit "rough opening 21-in x 21-in" but as noted above the actual size of the dome including lip was 24" square.

You could check with FOT parts desk to see if they have some in stock, or link below to a possible source:

Did you use a double layer or single layer?

I bought the "Bubble from the above listed company and the flat under clear with 1/4 inch, clear lexan from a local supplier. Two (2) layers... It was an E Z fix, be aware the bubble top and the roof hole are larger then the shower box, so there is about an inch dead (open) space to the center of the coach.  The "Box" that the bubble sits on is aprox. one inch thick, that is what the flange of the bubble sits on. Supply both measurements to the supplier, the bubble and the flange, if I remember there is an aluminum angle frame that seals the flange to the box....

I also used a piece of styrofoam and covered it in fabric to cover that skylight/ aka heat sink. Lots cooler in the bathroom.

Ernie, plexiglass breaks way too easy. Use Lexan instead. Lexan is used in many situations where resistance to impacts is desired. We used Lexan for guarding on metal working machines to protect the operator and contain any "flying" debris.
Hit a piece of Lexan with a hammer and it won't shatter like plexiglass, even tho you could look at the two materials and not discern any difference. Hail will not destroy Lexan .
