UPPER SLIDE LOCK REPLACEMENT

The Upper Slide Lock on my 2002 Grand Villa is leaking hydraulic fluid.  Any info on how to replace would be so much appreciated.  :o

Take off the header board and you can access it

You will need to remove the upper valence on the slide out and then the trim that is over the pin.  It is probably held on with Velcro.  Then see if it is the pin leaking or just a loose hydraulic hose connection. In the last couple of years, I have had 3 leaking pins. 

The fastest way is to order another pin mechanism from FOT or MOT or HWH for about $500. 

The cheapest is to have the pin rebuilt. Last year HWH rebuilt my two top 2 pins including R&R for $220.  Took them about 3 hours. If you send in the pin block, they will rebuild it and return it. If you can get an appointment with HWH, their service is exceptional. And their prices even more so.

If you can talk to HWH tech support, they can tell you if you can remove the pin block, cap the lines and still operate the room.  If you can, it is perfectly safe to drive with only 3 lock pins.

You may be able to get a local hydraulic shop to rebuild it quicker than working with HWH. Summer is their busy season.

I know the orings could be sized to replace but I wonder if anyone has posted the parts required? It would be nice to have a set of spares and at the very least a set of caps and plugs. Removing the valance can be done by one person but I absolutely recommend getting two or even three
So I did speak with Dylan and have ordered the orings. No clue if they are correct but have them coming. Will post numbers and links to purchase. They do have minimums so I ended up with 16 sets. This is also the place I bought orings for the six pacs. Probably will start a new topic to make finding easier.

Slide locking pin leaking on top of living room slide

Ref. Once the pin was out, I was able to source the 2 O-rings inside. One was by a snap ring (quad ring Part# AFM Q212) and the other was just a normal O-ring (Part# HERC 568-214). I don't have the part# for the cap O-Ring but was told it was a BOSS type, size 16, 90 Durometer. (Durometer is the hardness of an O-ring, just learned this.) I didn't have to remove the snap ring to remove and install the quad ring, just used a pick to remove then squeezed it back in.

I have reached out to Dylan and hopefully he will share were he sourced the seals.

SLIDEROOM HEADER HACK - the first time you remove the slideroom header, install some wood cleats on the back side to support it when you lift it it up and set it back in place. Screw them into the back of the header and space them so they sit on top of the square metal tubing that is the top frame of the slide room.  It makes future removal and installation an easy two person job.
