Yup, many times you can get heavier hydrocarbon chain contaminants in propane. It shows up as oil in the liquid LP lines and can show up in the vapor lines if the tank is overfilled. Normally, vapor lines don't contain these contaminants because the longer hydrocarbon chains boil at a much higher point than propane, so they remain a liquid in the bottom of the tank.
Are you taking about a leak from the overpressure valve or from the vent that is opened to signify the tank is to the proper fill level? Use some soap on it to see if there is a leak. If so, go to a propane service location and have it replaced.
