Alternator Output Voltage

I suggest that "others" verify the voltage produced by their alternators at the coach batteries and adjust it to the preferred level.

How is the alternator output voltage adjusted?

From: Barry & Cindy); By the way,  our alternator has a 3-step voltage regulator and will float charge both battery banks through the isolator at a lower voltage after driving a while.
There are many types of voltage regulators that will fit into our Prestolite-Leese-Neville alternators. Some adjustable, some 3-stage, some fixed, etc.

As I read the above, I was under the understanding that the Alternator had built-in voltage regulation which is self adjusting based on demand.  Is this right?

I get what Barry B. has in "beamalarm" insofar as a manual adjustment to change the setting for the voltage output from the alternator.

No, not quite correct.
All 3-step/stage chargers and alternators change output voltage of charge following a specific pre-set pattern, based upon the voltage being sensed. But a greater demand will drop voltage, so in a way your statement is correct.

Peter,
Since we were on the subject of Alternators.
I finished up some pages I have been working on and uploaded them.
Maybe they will be of some use to you.
