Reupholstery

Going to get some reupholstery done in the coach.  Doing the half dinette bench seat (SBI floorplan) and the dashboard.  The previous owner used the wrong cleaning solutions on the ultra-leather and did a mess up job on it.  He took the finish right off the dashboard in one spot.  We are going to use NaugaSoft which gives me cold crack protection to -20.  I have to remove the bench and dashboard and deliver it to the lady doing it.  Would like to get pilot and co-pilot seats done to, but she will not do them.  Have seat covers on them right now, which are not to bad.  Am keeping my eye open for some used ones that someone has replaced.  The ones I have are very comfortable for as old as they are and I hate to replace them.

Pat,
I have a white dash the reflects up into the windshield and creates glare due to the angled windshield of the Grand Villas.  I use a dark blue dashmat to block out the white but I always thought if I reupholster it I would use a matte dark color.

Have you had this issue ?

Update - the bench seat is at the shop right now.  Not bad getting it out except for a couple hidden screws.  Am going to have to look around for new screws, but old ones are still useable.  Have to get the dashboard removed this coming week and get it over to her.

John,

Agree with you on the reflection problem with the dashboard. Ours came with a dash cover in a dark color that works well. It is green so is on the list to be fabric sprayed a dark complementary color when I get a chance.

The "Ultra Leather" on the seats, etc. seems to me to be a very thin cheap Naugahyde that while soft, does not wear well at all and is sticky against the skin. Glad the sofa/chairs are fabric.

Pierce, I think the original product used was real leather. We had our couch recovered in our 93, U225 and I kept the old leather. It was really good quality but cracked and dirty after 16 years. The entire interior in our 93, U300 was redone at Foretravel last year. The chairs and couch were done in Ultraleather. It is absolutely beautiful. I have never seen better workmanship than that performed by the Foretravel upholstery shop. They are certainly not cheap but their workmanship and materials are worthy of our beautiful U300 Foretravels.

We had our dash and Pilot & Co-Pilot seats of our 1993 u225 recovered in the Ultraleather 2 years ago.  It is wonderful to keep clean with a damp cloth, wears beautifully, is very breathable to sit on in shorts (NOT sweaty or sticky) and has a wonderful feel.  We were really pleased with the material and are planning to use it again.  We  have a J lounge covered in actual leather in our "new" 1995 U320 ... horrible.  I can't wait to get rid of it and have something that is comfortable and we will certainly use the Ultraleather.  If you are replacing a covering that feels like cheap Naugahyde, I would venture a guess that it is not Ultraleather.

I never have anything to say here, so I will comment on "Ultraleather."  We bought cockpit seats early this summer and we paid more for Ultraleather.  No doubt there is Ultraleather and there is a cheap imitation.

We got the cheap imitation.  We protested the transaction with American Express and got half of our money back.  But the chairs are still covered in a crappy vinyl that masquerades as leather.  Carol and Jeff got the real deal,  we got the raw deal.  O.K.  I am done here.

Glad to see George had the same experience. Bill & Jo Chaplin stopped in last week in their 93' U300/40. They complained about the same thing. It was the same fake leather we got stuck with. Wonder how some got the good stuff and some the bad? On a bright note, they just replace the batteries for the first time since new in 93. Not bad!

We had our sofa recovered in Ultraleather Brisa at FOT last year.  There are actually all sorts of Ultraleather, some breathable, some not.  The Brisa lines have microperforations that make it breathable.  IIRC it was the only line David Flanagan showed us.

Something to keep in mind if you are getting seating surfaces recovered.  We opted for "Salsa", which is a near-perfect match for the muted red "Flicker" fabric used in the Linen Grey interior color scheme of our coach.

We must have the same stuff that Steve & Michelle have, then ... I only looked at color samples David Flanagan showed me and we had the work done at FOT.  I have only had great results with anything he has recommended for use on or in our coach .... surface treatment and fabrics, The Wood Doctor, etc.  The man knows his stuff, for sure.

Anyone know if James @ Xtreme has connection with a shop to recover my sofa with the good ultra leather fabric.  While in for the fbp, good time for extras.
Maybe MOT could work it out with their upholster shop, they did nice job on the drivers seat
last year.
Ideas?
Dave
