Everpure Water filters (and as an aside, ice makers)

In searching for the water shutoff for the ice maker, somebody mentioned it being under the sink, and they were right.  It's connected into the water filter under the kitchen sink.

BUT, I don't have a filter for the filter.  The water to it had been shut off and I haven't looked at it till now.  It's an Everpure quick change, QC2.  On the internet they go for $55.  I see other filters that run around $8.  Do I really need a $55 filter, or should I just change it out to the cheaper stuff?  I'm going to guess that once I run the anti freeze through it to winterize, it will have to be thrown away.  But I can't winterize without it cause I can't feed that line to the ice maker.  Hmmm, maybe I can bye pass the filter, just splice the two lines together and geter done.  What would one do without this forum to make one think?

The Everpure cartridge removes some really nasty things, so it's good for drinking water.  Camping World typically has the best price when they're on sale - think I got ours for $35 last month.

For winterizing, look for a plastic flange that might be lying loose (or might be installed in that fixture).  It's the bypass plate that allows you to run fluid through that line and into the dispenser without a filter in place.

Yep you're right, $35 at Camping World.  I'll go ahead and stick with it.  No bypass plate anywhere that I found, but once a year I can do the hose bypass if I can't come up with one.  Thanks!

Does that ADC filter fit in my QC2 head?  It kind of sounds like they're all the same.  I see they also have the bypass plug.
