Generator air intake

We are new owners and have many questions.  My immediate question is underneath the coach just to the rear of the generator is a a square opening approx 18 inches for the air intake to the generator radiator.  Is there supposed to be a cover or a screen on this opening on the bottom of the coach?  Ours is just a open hole.  Any ideas?

john ; check this when gen set is operating . is air moving out or moving in ? i expect your ans. is in your hand. air has to go somewhere after doing its job . don't cover hole with  anything .

Not familiar with that exact model, however I would want some sort of protective rat wire or expanded metal covering to keep out mice, rats, cats & kids out of the generator area. Do not use fly screen, too small and too easy to get plugged up and restrict the air flow.
Just a thought

If it's like my 91 it's the radiator exhaust.  The intake is through a very wide fiberglass duct that scoops air from behind the front axle on the centerline of the coach.
Mine didn't have any screens originally.  I made screens out of wire cloth (1/4" squares) and folded roof flashing around the edges, added rivets to the corners and then screwed it in place.  I put them on both the radiator intake and exhaust and also on the opening of the fuel/propane bay (right up to the 1" rubber hose propane tank vent).  I used a little silicone around the screws holes where they penetrate into the belly.
