Unused Wires

93 U-225

Our 225 has a bundle of unused wires in the back (photo). Looks like two 10 ga., two 12 ga and two 14 ga. The schematic indicates the same colors for the tail lights. All the lights work now and the wiring looks factory. This rig electrically has been pretty hacked up over the years but this bundle appears to be factory. It was not terminated nor stored as you would expect to see from the factory though. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jor,
The factory generally put those extra wires there so that a brake controller could be hooked up without you having to snake the wires yourself. The other end of those wires, if not hooked up to a brake controller, are usually coiled up in one of the upper front (generally the right side) cabinets.

Oops - Rick was posting at the same time as me.  :)

Just wanted to add

Look for any numbers on the wires you can cross-reference to the schematics.

Most (all?) FTs are built with spare wiring of various gauges, locations, etc. for future use.  At the rear of the coach it's a likely bet they are for a brake controller (or tow connection) as Rick said.

Thanks to you both. That makes sense. I don't see a coil of wiring up front but maybe I'll come across it one of these days. I'll check the wire numbers against the schematic. None of the wires are hot.

On both my 93 280 and the 95 320 I had spare wire bundles. The engine bundle terminated below the dash in a two foot loop.

Jor, On my 95 U280 there are actually two bundles of unused wires.  One is coiled up in the cabinet above the passenger side seat, it was stuffed down in a void and hard to find, it terminates on the right rear of the coach in the engine compartment, greasy and dirty but it was there.
Another bundle is behind the dash and is not quite as large, Part of it terminates above the passenger seat and I don't know where the rest of it is, PROBABLY in the same engine compartment bundle.
