Dometic Duotherm A/C Problem
Merry Christmas to All,
We were enjoying the pleasant weather down here in the Rio Grande Valley this afternoon, when, out of the blue, our front air-conditioner came on with the switch in the OFF position! We tried several things, among which was turning the on-off switch on then off again. The blower shut off for about 5-10 seconds, during which we heard a couple low-pitched tones (couldn't tell whether it was from the circuit board in the thermostat or from the A/C unit) and darned if the A/C didn't come on again.
I pulled the thermostat/controller off the wall, only to find that a wide band/ribbon cable of wires extend from the circuit board into the wall. I pulled on the ribbon until it wouldn't come any further, hoping that the cable of wires would plug into a cable going to the roof A/C circuit board and I could unplug it. No such luck. The end attached to the thermostat appears to be soldered into the board.
As a last resort, I hit the main circuit breaker for the front A/C and got it turned off. Fortunately it hasn't been real hot, though in the low 80's.
This is an old, non-digital thermostat, with a lever to increase/decrease the temp. I am told they aren't made any longer.
Any suggestions from the group?
