Flying J continues to make changes in their programs, including their Real Value (RV) and Real Value Plus cards. The following two pages include details.

Barry. Thanks for the update. Coming back from Florida earlier this month, I used my new Flying J card at Brunswick and got what I thought was a 1% discount, turns out it was a $0.03/gallon discount (about the same thing)
Have found that when entry and egress is doable, Murphy fuel beats all other prices, $0.20 to $0.15/gallon cheaper (than even Flying J.

Is this the Murphy that has the stations at the WalMart stores? If so, I didn't realize they sell diesel. And is their canopy tall enough to clear OK?

When we drove back from AR recently, we stopped at the Flying J in Sullivan, MO. We had just picked up the new card at the Haubstadt, IN station on the way down. Since we were driving the BMW we fueled at the auto islands. Didn't get the discount. Went inside and the clerk told me that the RV card is only good for the RV fueling islands. I told him I had just picked up the card in Indiana and when I fueled there the discount was applied. There's still confusion out there...station-by-station.

The problem I have with the Wally World Murphy stations is that access is usually very limited. In Haines City, FL for example, you mat get in to the island but with traffic and tight turns you will be frustrated getting out. Also, I have found that they will cut pump off at $75, I have not tried just giving the clerk the card before filling. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have heard as of 7 O'clock this morning all Flying J credit cards issued by Allient (?) Bank have been cancelled. This also effects Pilot...

I forgot that Murphy Fuel is at Wally World. I got mine most recently at Sam's where there is usually more room to maneuver. Ours here in Johnson City is easy to access from I 26 and is physically separate from the Sam's parking lot so congestion is not so bad and turn around easy.

AND the canopy is plenty high. There is a $100 automatic cutoff, but just run both the Sam's card and the credit card again for another $100 charge. I bought $300 worth 2 weeks ago for $2.89/gal. This is the best we saw on a recent FL trip.

For me, the best thing at Flying J is the change over to the Dennys food service, was getting tired of the old food service they were trying to force on travelers

I have been loyal for Flying J for years while pulling an Airstream. This trip in my Foretravel from VA to CA I would go on line and check fuel prices from state to state. What I began to notice is that Flying J's diesel prices are often much higher in their local area. Even Shell was significantly lower in some areas. You may save .03/gal at Flying J, but that's not much when you can go to a local Shell, Exxon, etc and save .10/gal or more. I'm driving 42' towing a car and I have encountered only one local station that I wouldn't drive in to. From looking at signs, it looks as though Flying J is now owned by Pilot. Perhaps that's why the high prices. One less competitor.

flying J has seen the last of me. Stepping out of the MH at Lake Park, GA I stepped into fuel an inch deep, I thought it was water. The clerk at the it counter when told about shrugged it off as an everyday thing. In addition he would not give me a discount on my card HIS EXPLANATION, I was OVER My LIMIT for the month, strange since I had not bought fuel since last September. FJ has adopted the attitude of PILOT in trying to run off the RV Business , and they have succeeded.

Flying J and Pilot. I don't get the attraction. We go there if it is convenient. As for the discount. What a joke. We have been given a variety of reasons as to why we won't get it. I'd say that in 15 months on the road that we've been in a Flying J and probably got a discount twice.

My criteria for fuel are: easy in and easy out, name brand.

Probably old news, now, but the CEO of Pilot/Flying-J (Bill Haslam) will be inaugurated as governor of Tennessee next week. Has absolutely nothing to do with why or where I buy my fuel!

It used to be when I arrived at A Flying -J , that I had A warm fuzzy feeling . Well --It's GONE . I now get the same feeling as I got when going to PILOT . Always felt like Pilot was trying to rip my lips off . Now it is the same at Flying -J . It is A sad thing the way this has turned out . I make it my business to avoid --PILOT and FLYING_ J . My reason to travel is pleasure and just can not lind it there anymore .I'll pay more just to avoid them .

I had a very bad experience using Murphy gasoline in the Houston area - it appears that they do not put the necessary additives in their fuel - you might notice the little machine on the side of the pump where you can pay an additional amount for the additives - just be careful - you get what you pay for. I stay with the major brands after that as a blown engine is not worth a cent or two per gallon. CL

I am wondering about the blown engine damage you mentioned, and I am not familiar with the Murphy fuel setup nor the extra option for additives.
Mostly interested in the damage to the engine due to not purchasing the additives ?

For what's it worth.
This weekend, we drove our car from the Tampa area (leaving our coach there for 2 months) to home (Mich) using the Flying J card.
In our 1st stop, I put in our R.V. real Value Membership card into the card reader at the gas island, "See cashier". We all know the drill. So 2 trips to the cashier and my total saving was .20. So they are giving us the discount at the gas island.

The next 2 stops were at Pilots, again at the gas island. Used our Visa 1st then the reward car. Both times the discount showed on the receipt. No trips to the cashier.

Observation: Flying J, Jackson, Ga I-75 ex 201. Very large separate parking off to the side with all pull through sites.
Pilot, Williamsburg, Ky I-75 ex 11. Very little parking, back in only. No RV island that we saw.
Pilot, Beaverdam, Oh I-75 ex 135. 2 RV pumps at the end of the gas islands. R V FUEL markings on the pumps and of course the one that you would see pulling in was ripped off and cars refueling there. Wouldn't want to pull the coach & toad though there and out. Not a good pull though area. No RV parking.
Across the street is the Flying J. Separate RV island that we used many times with pull through parking.

So, we'll stay with the Flying J's when driving the coach and use the Pilots for the Escape.

I sent Pilot/Flying J a message with the general sentiment of the RV community and our group. Following is their reply:

"Thank you for taking time to email me with your concern. I am truly sorry for the way yourself and others feel about Pilot Flying J. We are attempting to alter that opinion of us. There are more programs coming that will cater to the needs of RVers, and right now we have a few that I would like to share with you. The main issue for most RVers I have spoken with is whether they can receive the cash price on the truck diesel lanes, and their next is usually whether they can start the pumps outside or not. To this, I explain that with the new RV loyalty program I can answer yes to both inquiries. To be able to have the pump start feature and pay the cash price on the truck diesel lanes, one has to apply for the pump start with a manager in our locations. A clerk will be able to get the process rolling and then will request a manager to finish it. The manager will have to view the driver's license of the customer in question and then will complete the application. Upon the application going through, the customer will have to accrue 500 gallons on their card before the pump start feature will be turned on and the cash price given. Unfortunately, we do not have the record of your history with Flying J as we do not have access to their back records which is why we request the 500 gallons before the pump start feature is activated. The information above is mainly for those who fuel diesel on the truck diesel lanes. If you or others fit on the RV lanes, there would be no need to worry about the cash or credit prices as only the cash price is charged on the RV lanes, auto diesel lanes, and gasoline lanes. The pump start process that I described above is the same no matter which lanes you fuel on. Currently on the RV lanes, an RVer will receive a 2 cent per gallon discount on gasoline, a 3 cent discount per gallon of diesel, a 10 cent discount per gallon of propane, and half of the dump station. Once we can get the RV discounts working on the truck diesel lanes, you will also be able to get the 3 cent per gallon of diesel discount on top of the 6 cent cash discount. So in essence you will be getting 9 cents off per gallon on the truck diesel lanes once the program is completely working on the truck diesel lanes. Thank you for checking into that and posting here. The return of the cash price and discount in the truck lanes will be most welcome. We found that during the transition this past summer (from FJ to Pilot/FJ), it was hit or miss if you'd get any discounts.

Now I would like to see the "RV discounts working on the truck diesel lanes". That would be great! But in some states there will be that commercial vehicle fuel tax problem.
