Adjustment for Tank Gauges

93 225

The good news is that my new flat screen monitor displays a great image on the backup camera and also in the tank monitoring mode. The bad news is that the gauges don't work correctly. I've done a little searching here, on the yahoo site and on Barry's site but I haven't come across any adjustment for the Audit 860. Is there a way to adjust it? If not, how can I improve the accuracy of the black, gray and water readings? I'm not even sure how they work (internal, external?) as I don't have any documentation on them. Thanks.

We have an Audit 863. I called the company that built it to find out about adjustment. The only way to adjust is to change the "footprint" of the exterior metal pads on the tanks. They can be modified with aluminum tape. There was no recommendation about how the change the pads.

I did a bit of experimenting with some tape, but gave up pretty quickly.

If you look at the tanks, you should see two parallel aluminum tapes (you can get the same at a hardware store).

What is critical is the length of the tapes and the distance between them.  As J.D. said, trial and error of changing the length and distance between the tapes will calibrate the gauges.

I did it on mine as my original tapes lost their adhesive qualities.  If you check your tapes and they are peeling away from the tanks, it will change the resistance between the tapes and give you false readings.  Try to press the tape back down and they might read collectly.  If your adhesive is not working, try to replace the tapes being careful not to tear the square pad that the wire is hooked to, but removing the original tape stuck to the pads.

Mark the old tape outline on the tanks and put the new tape over the old outlines.  Fill and drain the tanks to check the gauges.  Moving the tapes closer or farther apart changes the readings, as does trimming or adding more tape over the tape that is on there.

It is a hit or miss calibration,  causing you to drain and fill multiple times.

Or, get used to an uncalibrated gauge and figure out the range that it is showing.

Thanks for the info, guys. This is just the kind of project I thrive on - high probability of failure but that elusive chance of success. I'm going for it!
