HWH electrical trouble shooting
I had a ride level problem, knew nothing about the HWH system except how to level. Thought that if the green light illuminated I was good to go. NO SO !
One, of many, thing, I learned was how to tell if the travel solenoids were getting power ( and therefore working as opposed to the valve working) was to turn on the key and leave it on for about 10 minutes.
The go to each 6 pack manifold and feel the travel solenoids with you bare hand. If it is getting warm, you know that it is getting power and has a good ground.
This does not mean that the valve is working. The valve itself is a spring loaded closed poppet. The solenoid power overpowers the spring and off seats the poppet.
The "click" method leaves a lot to be desired. It is very difficult to tell between two valves working and one working ( Travel valves).
plus it is almost impossible to do this check by yourself.
The "feel" method works with the other valves also, but means sitting and holding the raise or dump switch.
One of the solenoids I had to replace due to an open coil was badly corroded inside. Probably causing a heat retention and ensuing coil winding failure. The new Solenoids are constructed quite different and this will not happen with them. If I could purchase just the solenoids I would replace all of them as the valve portion is still operational. I have used black electrial tape around the rest of the solenoids to hopefully water proof them. (in doing so I found two that were loose)
I have started an Minnie "Alarm" system on my computer. As I am getting long of tooth and forget what I have learned from one happenstance to the next.
Also made a go/no go template to check ride height, first of 1/4" plywood and also one of 1/8" aluminium.
Hope this will aid someone else and shorten trouble shooting time
I can never repay or express proper thanks for your time and effort in "BEAM ALARM"
PS after reading this a explanation is required. I was working by myself through this ordeal. A 2nd person would have shortened the time frame. But the educational valve would have suffered
