Allison HD 4060R question

Started the coach yesterday for the first time in about 45 days. Temperature was low 50's and engine started fine. Warmed up for about 10 minutes and pressed "D" on Allison control panel. Indicator changed from solid "N" to a flashing "6" and no response from transmission. Had to hold "N" button for about 5 seconds to cancel "D" selection. Same response when shifting into reverse ( flashing "R" w/ no transmission response). After several tries with no changes I ran engine speed up to 1800 in "N" for a few seconds. Transmission then began to shift normally. Have not been able to find any reference to flashing "6" or "R" in Allison manuals. Coach has been run every 30 - 45 days but not moved since early December.  Anyone know what the flashing indicators mean ?

John,
Temperature should not be a factor.
Check fluid level.
If it had been sitting 45 days it may needed to get the fluid from the sump pump to the transmission which is why revving it may have fixed it.
RPM needs to be under 900 to shift
Brake switch may not be making contact.
Slide or "jacks up" sensors may not be making contact.

I believe that flashing indicators (and shift lockout) were due to high engine idle speed during warm up - 1000 rpm.  Haven't restarted to confirm but fairly certain that high idle speed was the culprit. Found the answer while reviewing info on Barry's website.
Thanks again Barry  :D :D :D

Jon,

It is not a good idea to run your engine if you're going to drive the coach.  It's better to follow proper storage techniques, or drive it monthly enough to get all driveline fluids up to operating temperature.
