Generator Job Done (well, almost...)

I finally got our generator compartment re-insulated. The compartment had the same insulation as the engine area. The plastic was all gone in both compartments and the original material had deteriorated (desiccated and dusting off). It was so bad in the engine area that it had plugged up the charged air cooler. When I got the generator covers off I saw the same mess on top of the generator. I have no idea how all the plastic cover in both compartments disappeared. Anyhow, I used the same stuff on the gen compartment as I used in the engine area. When I started this project the generator would only come half way out as the right side slider was seized. It fell apart when I took the generator out. (pretty poor design if you ask me) I was able to repair it (Ace even has those little ball bearings!). Took the opportunity to replace plugs and wires and the three filters and change the oil. Anyhow, it's back in now and whatdayaknow, it even started! Here's a few photos.

A really nice job.  Congratulations.

Thanks for the compliment. I gotta say, that thing is HEAVY! Anyhow, does anyone know what this orifice is for on my generator's LP regulator. There wasn't anything hooked up to it. I don't see any explanation for it in the documentation. I'll check the web also. Thanks.

Excellent, nice neat job. Good before and after fotos. When I find time, I would like to do the same to my diesel Kubota. My exhaust goes down, makes a 90 and out under the compartment. It is the lowest spot on the whole rig and since we are always going off pavement on gravel, beach roads, I was thinking of possibly going forward through the wall, making a 90 and then installing the muffler and pipe and then out just in front of the compartment where they could never rub against the ground. The stock muffler is a little loud so thought I would also replace it at the same time. Anyone out there done this before? Good job again!

John, I believe that is where the vent tube goes. There should be a 1/4",rubber tube coming out of the LP regulator that feeds to the outside of the coach. I am not sure what it's purpose is but I know it has to be open for the generator is run.

It looks to be  the bonnet vent fitting. It vents air from the spring side of the diaphragm. It will leak lp gas if the diaphragm is bad.Should be vented outside the generator encloser. Joe

Vent on the LP regulator, must be vented outside the coach, there have been cases where the diaphragm on regulator leaked, and the compartment filled with LP vapor, then when the starter was engaged, bang, end of nice RV etc.
If the vent gets stopped up, the generator will not run very nice if at all, the vent must let the diaphragm modulate the fuel flow, blocked it stops modulating..
Nice looking job on the compartment :)
