hydraulic oil tank: fluid change

I've been on search and I hadn't found a good summary of the oil filters and change process for the hyd oil tank.  Please advise filter nos. and anything else of note that I should be aware of to get the 15-40 swapped out.    I want to get this checked off the list on the '02....  Any help would be greatly appreciated. 

I'll likely just drain the tank and change the filters to avoid getting air into the system.  This oil has always been very clean but the filters do come apart over time.

Mike, When you change filters and fluid be careful not to drop the wingnut into the canister.  On mine it is aluminum and not easy to fish out since it is not magnetic.  yeah, you can guess how I know about that.

Replacing Hydraulic System (Engine oil) is no more difficult than changing engine oil.
I replace mine with the same AMS full synthetic diesel oil I put in the engine.
Removed drain plug and drained all the oil, then removed three stacked filters.
Replaced drain plug and added a gallon of AMS oil, then, ran engine for about 30 seconds to flush old oil. Removed plug to drain flushed oil. New filters installed and filled with new oil.
I read a memo on Foreforums where an owner did not remove the plug to drain the oil, he used a drill pump. The plug was easier to remove and replace than the plug in the engine.

I removed the top cover from the reservoir, then used a hose to siphon most of the oil out, then removed drain plug to complete. As I mentioned in an earlier post, if when turning sharply, your power steering seems a little noisy, there's a good chance your filters in your hydraulic reservoir are getting clogged, and starving the system under heavy demand. My steering noise diminished greatly once the oil and filters were changed.
The only reason I didn't do it Wyatt's way, and remove the drain plug first, was that I was unsure  I could capture that much oil that fast with the tools at hand.

While doing this I found that contact between the fluid reservoir and the air filter canister had caused the center post that hold the filters to be bent. See attached.
It might be a good idea to just take a look and make sure there is a little clearance between these.

Just been to local Cummins outlet to get the filters for Hyd oil change and he could not cross the #s 84101B for Nelson filters I also see that on Barry Beam's website he shows them as 83101B so I guess as there are different canister sizes the filters change. I look on Fleetguard website and they show a single long one with pt # 82421A. Is this a replacement for using 3 of the others? Anyone with a 295 around 2000 done this and can give me some direction. I would like to have the parts before I drain all the oil out.

John, I just got mine from Foretravel, to much hassel for the local folks to try to cross them over, that way you know you have the right ones. As I recall they were not that much. You only change them every couple of years anyway

Bill that # does not show on Google as Fleetguard and if I remeber correctly he said that none of the fleetguard #s have that kind of numbering ??
This comes up as Nelson and it dropped the 20 from the end. I was hoping for more feedback from the members that have recently done this change (I gather all are out enjoying the heat) and have e-mailed FOT to see what they have.

John,
We get ours from MHC Kenworth buy the case (6). Last time we bought some they said that with the changing of Fleetguard filter division there were going to have some new part numbers but they still used the 84101 B. They told us then that they saw no signs of discontinuing these as they use them often.

OK, I just checked with my Cummins Dist.  they list the Nelson 84101B as a Fleetguard 84101B number, 15 in stock, not a problem here.
I also changed the transmission filters and the 2nd TranSynd change, so should be good to go for a while.

I purchased three Nelson 84101B filters on-line at fleetservicespm.net where they are labeled "exhaust filter hydraulic".
I did not receive them until about 25 days after ordering, and only after I phoned them to ask "what happened to my filters". The woman I was talking to said that my order had just arrived at her desk for processing. I suspect they were out of stock and had to order them to fill my order.
They were not the least expensive I found with a google search, but I was not able to pay with mastercard at the least expensive source because my home address is in Canada while I was in California. The least expensive was Ryder Fleet Products (Truck Parts for Semi,Trailer,Heavy Duty Trucks @ RyderFleetProducts).
