Anyone have/put power steps on a '89 GV?

There are occasions where our landing platform is a bit of a long reach for  the vertically challenged individual so I wonder if anyone has rectified this problem by installing power steps. If so, what kind and how to circumvent the battery storage under the inside steps.
Also, due to my increasing klutziness I tend to bang my shins on the darn step platform thing when it is inside.
Oops, forgot to mention, this is a 1989 GV ORED so it is narrower than the Unihome, etc.
