Pump Replaced & Worked Fine - Then Failed

RV repair shop in Kent, WA replaced our pump with same model pump (not sure of name at this point - original was not Shur-flo)

I saw the pump work fine.
When we went to leave we tested it and it did not pump. New pump has voltage and simply does not work.

We are thinking of replacing it with a Shur-flo 5.7 Is this the pump many have had a problem with?

be aware that ShurFlo pump warranty is a joke.  I replaced mine two weeks ago. Old one was Mfg in 2008 but Shurflo says warrenty starts with date of purchase so even tho pump is less than their three year Warrenty the fact that I purchased the first one and it failed in about two months and they replaced it means that date of original purchase was over three years ago so no warranty.
When this one fails I will buy some other brand.

I see the SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump is rated at 3gpm.  Is that enough water for showers?

Paul, I am not 100% positive as I haven't purchased any lately but I think the shower heads sold today in parts of the country come with a restrictor that limits flow to 3 GPM.

Paul,
That's hard to say.  It all depends on where and how much the pressure drops are in your particular plumbing.  The size of the inlet tubing is of particular importance under high flow rate conditions.  And on what you vs. I consider to be adequate showerhead flow.  I like a strong shower and the 5.7 will do that.  We have FT (2000 U320) friends that swear by the 4008.  They say it's more than adequate and I've had them turn their shower on for me.  It doesn't look or feel that much different than my 5.7.  But, they have an aftermarket shower head that is larger (more holes, therefore less backpressure and more flow) than my standard FT showerhead.
The 5.7 has a counterintuitive variable pressure as well as variable flow solid state controller, while the 4008 has none of that nonsense.
If the flow rate is low, the 5.7 scales pressure way back.  If the flow rate is high, it trys to ramp up to 65 PSI and 5.7 GPM.  That's good once it settles in to trying to supply an open wash hose or showerhead, for instance.  But if you crack open a faucet, just a little, it goes through several iterations trying to find its programmed flow vs. pressure relationship (hunting or surging).  Then as you fine tune the flow rate, its almost as though the pump has died and has little or no output pressure.  To further confuse you, the five 5.7's (one original and four warrranty) I've had, all have behaved noticeably differently in their flow vs. pressure relationships.
The following are the (as advetised) typical pump performance data for the two pumps, as of today.
On my coach, the pump output pressure runs about 36 PSI with the shower (and nothing else) turned on.

I am only guessing, but it appears to me that the 4008 would be fine for me for the shower and for washing the coach, which are the highest flowrate demands.
FWIW,
Neal

Thanks, Neal. Very kind of you to take so much time to reply.

Even tho it's not Saturday night I think I'll have to take a shower to see how it works tonight ;o)

They are installing the 4008 as I write. I sure hope IT doesn't get fried.

Paul, I'm thinking about doing the shower bit also now that it is the end of July and time to sew on the new woolly long johns. The old ones were getting a bit thin in places and letting in drafts.

We have used the Shurflo 4008 Revolution for over a year and we get more than enough water flow/pressure from our shower. We even put in a ball valve in the shower to reduce the pump's water flow mainly to extend our fresh water tank capacity.
We never use city water pressure for our faucets, so we use our Revolution 356 days a year.

Well, our 4008 is in and works like a charm (with apologies to Harry Potter ;o)

Haven't tried a shower yet.  But our shower has a shut off at the small nozzle.  So I can wet up, turn off water at the nozzle. Soap up. Then turn on water and rinse. I'm not sure if I use more than a gallon or two per shower.

This was our first experience with a broken pump.  The lack of a pump was so annoying that I'm considering getting a spare 4008.

If you ever have the need (or some more justification), a spare pump with some hose ends and power hookup makes it real easy to winterize your system or push in some chlorine for a tank shock. Mine came with one set up that way. Since I live in FL I've never had a chance to use it.
