Toilet replace

15 years old, seal doesn't always seal, and it's ugly.  It appears that they can be replaced for under $200.  Is there any recommendations as to brand/type?  The current one sits on a pedestal and is foot operated.  Also is the straight drop down, no vacuum pump thingy.

Gayland, I purchased the Thetford Aqua Magic® Style Plus for the U225 before Dave bought it. It was not the most comfortable seat but it flushed great compared to the old one. It was light weight but had a porcelain bowl, plastic body. It was under $200 delivered from PPL and easy to install althought the foot print was different from my old Aqua Magic V. I would buy it again.

If you have a height restriction like a cabinet door, make sure to check that it will clear with the lid down. Also, if you have a pedestal you will need the low profile.

Gayland, I have the Sealand Toilet, it has a foot pedal and the c... drops straight down.  I would not trade if for any of the Fancy vacuum and electric jobs.  They have too many things to go wrong.  The Sealand Traveler like mine is easy to maintain.  Worst problem is when the DW traps TP in the ball and then it leaks.  They need to have the ball seal cleaned , use a brush and some dish soap, if seal gets clogged use a bent over screwdriver to carefully clean the groove.  The spray tends to age and the hose gets stiff but its easy to replace.  Even if the main valve begins to leak or stick its not to bad a DIY job to replace.  Check with others to see what their experience has been with the fancier jobs. Of course if the poop tank is not almost directly below the toilet you will probably have to have a vacuum type.

having repaired a few toilets ( mine and others) it is an easy job, just a tad messy, but very doable. I would first though pour some CLR into the bowl and let it sit (after first doing a very quick flush to get some of it on hidden parts of seal) overnight and then be very carefull not to scratch the ball but use a soft scrub brush to help remove the built up residue on it. If this does not work then taking apart is easy after removing it from floor and sponge seal. Parts are available and most times it is just the ball seal that needs to be replaced. Clean everything well and it should last another 15 yrs or 10950 poops whichever comes first!!!

It would be nice to have a simple, straightforward toilet ... but for those of us with a commode that is not located directly over the black tank, there is no other option but a vacuum toilet.  We have had some issues during our learning curve with our SeaLand Magnum Opus Turbo Turd 5000  ... mainly related to high altitude while we were in Leadville, CO and over 10,000 feet. At anything under 7,000, it seems to perform very well with only minimal maintenance during cleaning.  As one user told me, "This thing will flush a small child!"

Unfortunately, we don't have a Turbo Turd as ours is directly over the tank.

Seriously, when we needed to replace a faulty wax ring seal on a previous coach, I spent some extra time with the dumping process before hand. Throw about a pint of plain, white vinegar into the commode after you empty the black tank. Scrub the commode thoroughly, flush and flush again. You can add another pint of vinegar to the tank and plenty of water and then empty it again, if you wish.  We removed the commode, replaced the seal and cleaned everything up. Even the process of hugging the toilet to carefully place it perfectly on the new seal was ODOR FREE.  No smell from the tank at all .... vinegar is magic stuff!

Thetford - choosing the right toilet. www.thetford.com/Portals/0/PDFs/toiletChartREV.pdf.  Planning on replacing mine too.  The hole is to small  :-[!!!  And I want one with a larger hole.  Have the Sealand Traveler if I remember right, so my replacement would be the Aria® Classic.
