Isolator Location 89 ORED?

Anyone have an idea where they put the isolator on the older GVs?  I looked around in my battery box and couldn't find it.  Thought that would have been the most logical place for it.

Check in the engine compartment.

Trace the B+ large gauge wire from the alternator or the large battery cables from the batteries.  If a diode based isolator like on most Foretravels, it is certainly large enough to locate-- approx 10" X 3" with large aluminum cooling fins to keep the diodes cool.

Benjie, on the U225 it was on a metal plate attached to the frame behind the drivers side rear wheel mud flap. You may get access to a bay door back there or just crawl under the coach. It sits out into the open so it will be pretty dirty. There may also be several relays and a solenoid, the boost switch, also mounted to the plate with the isolator.

OK, I did a quick look in the engine compartment when I was working on the alternator (thought it might be on the wall near the cruise control mounting), but I'll do a more extensive search next time I'm out there.  Thanks for the input!

Yup ... a big, ol' thing that you could use for a door stop. When we went through our alternator repair episode with the U225, we had to spend a few nights in a Cummins repair facility parking lot in Baltimore. I had Foretravel on the phone regularly and relayed their advice to the mechanic about checking on the condition of the isolator. "Oh, yeah. It's fine. I checked it and everything is all secure.", said the guy.  2 days later, when I made another mechanic take my phone and crawl under the coach with James Triana on the line, I heard him say,"OK, I think I found it. There is some black stuff leaking out of a crack, and I guess that can't be good."  Apparently the first guy didn't know where to find it OR didn't know what it looked like.  Nice!!

Found it on Monday morning.  You can see it from the side engine bay opening attached to the frame behind the rear wheel.  Thanks to everyone who commented!
