Monitor & Camera

I replaced our camera and monitor. We went with the setup that Brett recommended a while back, the Voyager VCCS150 camera and the Totevision LCD 5.6" monitor. The camera offers a great long wide view and the monitor is sweet although it is a pretty tight fit, almost touching a few of the controls. Looks fine though. Our dash is aluminum with some kind of plastic-like facia. I used an auto air body saw (like a saber saw) and it made for an easy cut. The dash is pretty flimsy though so if you don't remove it, you really need a second person to hold it in place when you do the deed. I undercut it a bit to be safe and ended up doing a lot of file work to get it just right. Anyhow, I would recommend this camera/monitor combo for anyone replacing the stock setup.

Curious; did your electro-luminescent panel back-lighting survive when you cut the dash?

It wasn't working before so I figured what the heck. I think the previous owner may have done a little mod to install the XM radio and that may have already damaged it. I never drive at night unless I absolutely have to so I'm good. The rest of the dash is all conventional bulb lighting.

A while back I drilled a "tiny-little-hole" in an area well clear of any of the luminescent strip areas. No more back-lighting. Lesson learned.... still hope to be able to repair, but am advised it's not likely.

Not exactly. I ended up splicing the coax and a 12 volt wire into the camera RCA cables.  Sounds ugly but it came out nice. This camera has audio also but I didn't bother with it. I broke out the glass on the original grille enclosure, mounted the camera just above it and used a rubber grommet to route the wire through that hole.
