Two Hydraulic Reservoirs?

So I'm supposed to close on my new coach tomorrow!  I was over at the dealership checking things out and trying to familiarize myself with a few things.  One thing really surprised me.  It looks like my coach has two hydraulic reservoirs?  I was expecting only to see one.  Here are pics.  Is one dedicated to fan and the other power steering?  I had purchased enough oil and the 3 filters for the larger one, but hadn't expected to see the smaller one.  Does that also have filters and are they the same size/type?

You can see on this link about quarter of the way down the page there's only one?

Benjie,

In my '92 U-280 with the C8.3, there are two reservoirs, a larger one on the left, smaller one on the right. The larger one (for the hydraulic pump and fan) takes two filter cartridges, the smaller one (for the power steering) on the right takes only one cartridge. As I recall, the smaller reservoir takes a different sized filter from the larger reservoir.

Hmmm, anyone know what size filter the smaller reservoir takes?  I'd like to get it ordered!  If not, I'll try and take a look when I get a chance.

Benjie,

I went out to the coach (40' away) and got my log book (service records). The large reservoir used a Donaldon #84101B; got them from MOT here in Nacogdoches. The small reservoir took a Nelson #83804E, also from MOT. Be careful when removing top cap. There is a spring to hold filters down and no washer between cap and spring. Also, you will find a centering washer on shaft that has to be pried off before filter can be removed. After filter element is removed, check bottom of shaft; there will be a rubber washer still on shaft. New washers may come with new filter. If not re-use them.

Remember, the above information is for the C8.3 Cummins, 300 hp turbo engine.

Don, thanks for the quick help! I have 3 Nelson 84101Bs based on the hydraulic oil and filter change link from beamalarm.com . Sounds like I may have to go purchase a 83804E from somewhere. Hoping an auto parts store might have something, otherwise, I'll probably need to order online.

Benjie,

I did the same thing: I bought 3 of the 84101B's; didn't know the reservoir would only hold 2 till I got in there. I still have the extra filter in a storage bay. You can see that if the large one only holds 2, the smaller reservoir will only accomodate 1 filter.
