Water Pump

A couple of years ago, Jim replaced our water pump with a ShurFlo 5.7.  When he installed it, he removed the accumulator tank, but had to put the accumulator tank back in for proper toilet operation (manual peddle flush).  Without the accumulator tank, the minute you let off the peddle, the water ceased flowing, leaving a dry toilet bowl.  With the accumulator tank, enough water continues to flow that water is left in the toilet bowl, covering the seal.

This pump has now failed so we need to replace it again.  Does anyone have any experience with a water pump (or other solution) that doesn't need the accumulator tank for the manual toilet to have enough residual water flow after letting off the flush peddle to cover the seal?

It doesn't seem to me that your issue is related to the lack of accumulator tank. However, your experience suggests otherwise.

Regardless of that, you may be able to fill the bowl by lifting the peddle on the toilet. On many toilets, lifting the peddle supplies water without opening the drain. Most of the toilets I have seen in RVs also have a sprayer that can be used to fill the bowl.

Shurflo 4008 Revolution is being used by many to replace the Shuflo 5.7. The 5.7 has an electronic circuit board to slow pump RPMs down to reduce pulsing at low water flows.

The 4008 has no electronics and uses an internal bypass to eliminate pulsing at low water flows.

I don't know how the accumulator helps at your foot pedal toilet. Maybe the 5.7 was slowing down too much to do the job at your toilet.

We used the 5.7 and now have the 4008 and have not had an accumulator for 8 years and our Sealand foot-pedal toilet fills water above seal. The toilet is a water valve like the kitchen faucet and letting up on the pedal closes the water valve.

I assumed the water left in the bowl is because the bottom ball-valve closes before the water valve and water in the top of the toilet bowl flows down to cover the seal.

We are happy with our Shurflo 4008. An input screen filter is recommended to keep trash out of the pump.

Thanks to JD's posting, I realized that we always use the sprayer when flushing, so maybe that is why we always have water over the seal, even without an accumulator. Sprayer can only work when foot pedal is being pressed. Sprayer may allow more water to flow, preventing 5.7 from slowing down.
