TV Identification Help Please!

So I installed two LCDs this weekend.  A 19" in the rear and a 32" up front.  Up front, there are some items I'm not exactly clear on what they do.

1. Can someone tell me what the black box with red tape around it is?  It's plugged into a receptacle and does have a receptacle of its own.  No label or PN that I can see.  There is a red and black wire coming out of it, but haven't been able to trace them yet.  Not sure what the purpose of the red tape is.  It covers the ground, but not the positive/neutral.

2. Any idea what the Foretravel switch does?  My rig had an aftermarket satellite system installed on it, but all the equipment was jerked out by someone.  Maybe something to do with that?  It's a mess of tangled wires behind the TV.

Thanks,
Benjie

It could be your Batwing TV antenna amplifier switch.

1 is likely the device that shuts off power to the TV whenever the

ignition switch is on. Likely your old TV left the factory plugged into that black box, but many (me??? of course not!!! :-)) have unplugged the TV from that and plugged directly into the outlet....easy to test if you want to confirm -

the red and black are 12V switched to the ignition I suspect

It also could be the relay that doesn't allow the tv to be turned on if the ignition is on...

Likely supplies 12v to the amplifier.

Hmmm, I don't see an amplifier anywhere? I'll try and trace the wires further to see if I can find something, but if anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears.
