Powertech 10 problem

I am not getting power from our Gen Set. It has worked great up till now since we bought our coach in Aug and about 110 hours. The engine runs fine but no power. On our last trip we got to our spot for the night and started it and it seemed fine. after about 1/2 hour it quit with a fault for over heating and I found the fan was not running. We had been outside and did not realize the power was off. I have since learned the fan runs on the Gen power so that was the over heating cause. I have opened the top of the box where the breaker and reset button are and there is no power on the inn side of the breaker. Any ideas for where to look? Has any one had there Powertech serviced in the Miami Area?

From this sticky topic Generator Topics Recap

I recall a few that specifically had a good engine run, no electrical output (one was ours).  Gerard had the simplest issue, a broken wire My PowerTech/Cat 12kw generator will not put out any electricity

I guess a voltage regulator that completely failed might also do that.

we and Brett Harrison weren't quite so lucky

Have same coach. Look for a broken wire in the control box. We have had the same problem. Use a mirror to do a good  inspection of the wires.

Well, reading the prior threads is not so comforting. I checked my warranty and it looks like it would be covered. I have been questioning the purchase but looks like it may be worthwhile. I looked in the control box and did not see anything loose but I think I will look again with a mirror. I downloaded the manual (Thanks) and will print it. It looks to be more thorough than the one that came with the coach. Some of it is over my head but I am hopefull that my friends nephew who's business is gen repairs will be able to help. I hope he can at least diagnose the problem and if it is major looks like the 4 hour trip to Leesberg may be the way to go.

Our Gen has 571 hours on the clock! it is a 1999 so it is old but not many hours. I will update when I find out more.

Thanks for the info and support. Phil

Have your friend check the brush holder and the commutator rings.

I had the same problem. The problem was with the Voltage Regulator. It had come loose and shorted out. I had it fixed in Leesburg. If you know that is the problem they can ship you one.

A charred resistor in the lower left corner of the regulator is a clear indication of a failing regulator.

The mechanic came today and it ran all day but looks like it is the regulator. The replacement is ordered.
