Wheels and tires

Rather than highjack the super single thread any more than I already did, I'll start another one.

I wondered if all the wheels were the same, or whether the duals were somehow different than the singles. I got two answers:
"David, Unless a PO has changed something the wheels are all interchangeable." and "The front wheels are different from the back, and usually the insides are different from the outside rears."

In looking at the coaches these two hero members show, it seems that maybe the reason for the difference is the body style and age of the coach. I guess that's just something I'll have to remember to look at when I'm actually looking to buy a coach.

On my 1993 U-225, I have 3 different styles of wheels.  Front are not dished, rear outers are deep dished, and the inner rears are maybe steel, not aluminum like those showing front and rear.

No way to rotate wheel position to rotate tires without dismounting and remounting tires.

I am sure all 6-tire Foretravels have different wheels at front & rear. Front are aluminum polished only on their dish-out side. Rear outer wheel is aluminum polished only on dish-in side. Rear-inner wheels on our coach and some others are painted steel. All are interchangeable but not pretty if in the 'wrong' position.

The steel wheels can be replaced with new Alcoa aluminum wheels for about $300 each. Less than an OEM aluminum wheel on the cheapest passenger car. A spare should be able to be turned around to fit all three possible positions. Not positive if the rear studs are the same length for the steel vs. aluminum.

I bought a used Alcoa wheel and tire for a spare ($110) but measured to see if the offset was the same before taking it home. Alcoa wheels are available in both polished and matte finishes. Slightly different part number for each.

11.00X22.5  truck tires are an inch taller than stock 275/80 or 295/75 and while a spare would work in a pinch, they will rub in some coach attitudes plus would carry more load than the stock tire next to it in the rear if used as a spare.

New Alcoa wheels available polished both sides.

Ours came with 6 Alcoa wheels.

David, All 6 wheels on my 95 are the same.  They are all Alcoa's BUT since they face in or out depending on position the POLISH can be (is) very pitted on the inner OS dual and the INNER dual itself.  If you had nothing else to do you could polish up both sides on all the Wheels.  It is much easier when rotating tires to dismount/remount the tires being rotated. ONE situation I saw many years ago was a flat on the front, guy took off rear OS wheel and tire, put it on front so that he could get to shop.  Wheel looked terrible but it worked.  WHOOPS, Just so you know  ...  I Have BUDD type wheels.. Those of you with Hub Piloted wheels may have a different setup.  I forget from time to time that I am used to the equipment that I have and yours may not be the same.
