Power Tech 8 kW fault light

While running the generator to power the roof top ACs today on our way to Twin Falls ID, the red dash fault light came on and the generator quit. The outside temperature was already 90 degrees. The generator had been on about an hour. After hooking up at the campground, I checked the generator for any additional clues. There were no additional lights illuminated on the generator. The fuel line which has had two previous leaks looked good. On the generator, I flipped both breakers and the main switch. The dash fault light remained on. I pressed the start button at the generator and it started up and the fault light went off! I only ran it a minute.
Power Tech confirmed that they do not have a service facility in Idaho. The PT rep said that it could be any number of things. I proposed that it might be a clogged fuel filter. He agreed.
In May while at FOT I had them replace the generator air, fuel, and oil filters. FOT also replaced the engine fuel filter and found that it was clogged.  I had exercised the generator several times over the winter, and used it in April, June, and now in July. So, I suspect a clogged generator fuel filter. Therefore I bought a new generator fuel filter from the local NAPA store.

What is the correct procedure to install the filter?  What else should I be looking for?

Bob  Don't forget the inline fuel filter next to the small electric pump.  I had a 99U270 with the 8kw and had the gen stop and it turned out to be this inline filter.  Mine had never been changed and I had no idea it was even there thought it was part of the pump.  Tks DAN

Mine would die occasionally and it turned out to be the latching relay.
