Winterizing

               In the process of winterizing the coach for the first time. :-( I think I have most of it figured out but when I got to the Everpure undersink filter I found it has two lines on the output side. The unattached one appears to go down through the floor. Anyone know what it is for? Also there is a lever on the side of the filter body that I assume is a shutoff?

Correct, the lever is a shutoff that lets you change the filter without turning off your water supply.
The two lines? Don't know but will go check today. Maybe someone else knows??

Do you have an ice maker in the fridge or stand alone?  If you do, maybe that's the supply line to the ice maker.

                    We do not have the ice maker but there is a line into the back of the fridge compartment with a shutoff. I will see if I can tell if it's the same one. Makes sense.

                  Yep, traced it to the back of the fridge. Thanks. I also just realized that I need an insert for the filter to winterize it. I don't find one in the coach so may have to tie the lines together. Oh well, part of the learning curve I guess.
            Gotta move to warmer pastures......

Dean, I just came in from checking my filter setup. One input line with two output lines coming off a Tee fitting. One of those lines goes to the drinking water tap and the other line goes to our U-line ice maker.

I also checked the installation brochure that came with the water filter system--nothing mentioned. Make sense as every installation can be different.

                 Thanks guys. I will contact everpure. I found one one Tweetys website but it's $26.00 with shipping. Seems like a lot for a "plug" ::)

          Another question, I always blew the lines out on my prior coach before pumping in the antifreeze. I assume the best way to do that is to hook the pressure to the city water hose reel?

Dean,
I do not blow out the water lines.  It's not necessary if you're going to use anti-freeze.  I open the three valves in the utility compartment (passenger side), open all the faucets an, in my case, empty the HW heater (don't forget the outside faucet).  Then I close everything up and begin to insert the anti-freeze ensuring all appliances are covered (Washer/Dryer, toilet, etc).

                Thanks Peter. The reason I got in the habit of blowing out the lines is concern about any dilution of the antifreeze. I also do not usually leave the lines full of antifreeze after filling because it just seems safer to me to leave as much expansion in the lines as possible after filling.

                    May be overkill but I just feel better having done it when it's -20F here for a week :o.
                  BTW I called the Freshwater system folks and was told they don't carry or deal with the winterizing plug. Actually the tech I spoke with had to check into it because he hadn't heard of such a thing. OTOH, they are in S. Carolina so probably not as much call for it there.
    I think I will just get a 1/4" nipple and tie the lines to get by for now.

        The only other "new to me" item is the washer/dryer winterization but I found a couple of old threads on it so I think I have it figured out.

Dean, if you have the manual for your washer it will have the winterization procedures for your model.  The procedures for mine are different from the links I have seen here and I feel more comfortable using the procedures the manufacturer specifies.

                   J.D. thanks, I have done business with the water filter store and will check with them. Good outfit....

                    Monti, I do have the manual for ours and I plan on winterizing it per their instructions. If I mess up that Splendide Deirdre will have my head! :D

            With the info from all you good folks and sticking my head behind cabinets etc. today I think I have it figured out. ::)
                It will have to wait until Saturday though because we are getting up "ole dark early" tommorow and heading to the Common Ground Fair in to have some fun. :D

Drains---Drains---Drains--don't forget to fill each and every p-trap with undiluted RV antifreeze!! Also, enough into each holding tank. I do leave the cap off the Valtera drain end until I am reasonably sure no water is present, only RV antifreeze.

                                        Norm I have a small sink plunger that I use to plunge all the water I can get out of the drains before pouring the antifreeze in. Works very well and no dilution.
