Windshield Wipers Park Changing

Yesterday I traveled across I-20 in intermittent rain.  After Vicksburg, Mississippi my wiper park position started changing.  Each time I shut them off, the parked position marched across the windshield.  What has happened, and how do I fix it?

Brett

You have a nut inside the dash that is loose or the one on the front outside.  Both issues have happened.  My money would be on the inside.

Amos, I think John has it.  Start with the nut at the wiper arm.  The inside of the wiper arm is a soft metal and if the nut has loosened the soft metal will probably be gouged out and require a new arm.  Temp fix if this is the case is to remove arm, place a small piece of solder around inside of arm ( real small ), tighten down as hard as you can without stripping bolt.

Brett,
Did you ever have the FT Recall work done on the W/W?
The drive nut on the back of the motor loosens and strips the soft metal, toothed, conical seating surfaces, so no amount of post-failure torque will hold the drive nut in place.
Mine failed in New England (two attempts at re-torque failed).  FT sent me a complete W/W system (Motor/drive arms/WW arms/blades/washer jug/tubing/etc.  That was the good news.
Took me two days to get the dash apart enough so that I could install the pieces- parts.  That was the bad news.
Not a bit of a problem since.
See attached recall notice.

Neal,

Thanks for the info.  I have never heard of that recall.  Since I have a service appointment at FT of the 18th, I guess I won't take the dash apart before then.

Brett
