Tire size

Is there a problem running 11R tires instead of 275/80 tires on my 1997 U295?  According to the chart the 11R tires are .9" taller than the 275/80s.  I am looking at the Yokohama RY023 tires.

The 11R tires will hit the airbag mounts,at least they did on my 97  U270, that has the same chassis as your 295.

Terry, I think stay with what FOT specified, the 275/80 I imagine?  If you try any larger it will almost certainly drag when you turn the wheel sharply.  Even the 275/80 will drag a little on mine, said to be normal.  I recall someone said that you could adjust something and gain a little space to get a bit larger tire, but for me I would not.  If price is big difference, maybe look into the FMCA discount program, I do not now if it is still on or worth the effort.  Also, Rudy Leggett has a contact for tires that he says is good price.....I imagine the drive to Houston might eat up any savings.

Hope you and Cheryl well, enjoying the coach, learning what you need.  I have now come across a 36 ft 1996 coach I am to go look at next week, individual sale.  Cheers,  Mike

I had an 11R22.5 for a spare. I had to mount it on the outside rear after a flat and can tell you that it is indeed, about an inch taller. I looked it up before but a real world inch is quite a bit when you see it. Probably a set of 11R22.5s on the back would be OK but my 295/75s already polish the front wheel air bag plates and another half inch might start it working directly on the airbag. Nice to have all 6 tires the same size.

Found some interesting info from Yokohama and Michelin web sites.

11R        overall width  10.8"  overall diameter  41.4"    static radius  19.3"
275/80  overall width  10.9"  overall diameter  40.1"    static radius  18.7"
295/75  overall width  11.1"  overall diameter  40.2"    static radius  18.7"

It looks as if the 295/75 is the closest spec to the 275/80.
My local Yokohama dealer sells these tires for $425.00 out the door mounted and balanced.  I have run Yokohama tires on my 3/4 ton Ford Excursion and have had great service and mileage towing a 10,000lb toy hauler.
