Rear seal on the transmission

Well, I just got the news. It is not a cummins problem but a rear seal on the allison leaking onto the road speed sensor. So when I leave Cummins tomorrow with a new block heater, I will go home then next week I will go to Allison for a 4 hour repair there.

John, not sure you have the same issue but I had a rear seal leak on the 4000 series Allison.  At first it was only the retarder mounting plate but after that we found it was the large back seal.  While doing that work the Allison certified technician did the remained of the rear seals, including the seal around the driveshaft.  He said he seldom sees the 4000 series for this but my 140+K miles may have been a factor.

The evidence of the leak, for those wanting to know, was only a few drops of oil on the concrete floor when stored.  It was not a leak such as there being puddles of oil.

Do not like the sound of this oil leak as it seems to affect the 2001 model so far, as both John and Mike have the 2001 as I, so wondering if it is an issue with the first year of the MH4000R, in 2000, the 4060 series is listed as the Allison model,  or is just old age normal father time and mother nature?
Cheers

Just visited with a friend who has a 99 U320.  He also had the same issue. I think it is time and mother nature.

What year did Allison change to Transynd? Some MFG's had problems with gaskets and O rings when they first changed to synthetic fluids. Then had to change material to Viton.Gam
