Girard Awning

Our Girard awning will extend with the use of either, the remote or switch located inside.  Occasionally although it is becoming more frequent, it will not retract fully irregardless of whether we use the switch or the remote. We are having to roll the last three to four feet in manually.  Any suggestions?

Rick,

Assuming the joints in the arms are clean and lubricated, it could be the motor or the current limiter.  Our symptoms of the latter were that it would not come in more than a foot at a time on its own, though.

The installation manual is in the files library (and here):  The selected media item is not currently available.

Thanks Michelle.  It sounds like it is our current limiter.  Is it repairable or do we just replace it?

Rick,

There's a procedure to bypass the current limiter that Ricky at Girard had us do first to diagnose the problem.  I'll have to look and see if I still have the e-mail with instructions (or maybe Dick has it handy).

We are heading toward Oregon Motorcoach Centre tomorrow to get the living room slide bladder replaced.  Will add this to the check / to do list that is growing daily.

Having just worked on a Zip Dee auto awning (motor replacement) if the awning continually stops a few feet from totally closed it may also be the "in" limit has gone wonky!! If it is this then you should see if you can turn it a few revs (limit switch) to allow it to close more. If it does close more then you know you have to keep adjusting the switch to allow it to go all the way. The only problem I see with this is "what happened to original setting of stop switch-and will it suddenly revert back to old" causing the motor to try to go on running. Just a thought.

Maybe the awning only likes it in Indio!    Safe travels.
