TOAD selection

Just picked up an older Jeep YJ [Wrangler] with 5 spd trans. Intent is to flat tow behind our coach. Any suggestions on hitch selection would be helpful.

I'm partial to Blue Ox. I don't like the crossbar design that Roadmaster uses.

It's a personal pref. I currently have an Adventa LZ 10K since I tow a Tahoe.

I use and like very much the ReadyBrute tow bar with it's auxillary braking system and a blue ox base plate. That is a 56 IMP 354 cu in 280 h.p. ? Gam

Thanks, yup 56 Imperial 354 hemi, with fact AC, Kelsey Hayes wire wheels AND original paint. The beast was well cared for till the late 60's then put away in a controlled environment till I found it. Going to freshen the engine this spring and go cuuzin.

I like the blue ox too.  I have mine on my wrangler and have pulled it 300k miles.

FWIW, I have a Blue Ox Alladin 7500# that I no longer have a use for and I would let it go cheap just to get it out of the garage.  I'm in GA.

I liked the "whiz nuts", sure eliminated the issue of holding a nut inside an impossible position on the F150 & Honda CRV.  Found the Blue Ox is easy to use compared to the Stowmaster I used on the VW Rabbit, Ford Escort & Honda Element. Like the Ford F150 the best so far for a toad.  Been towing for 25 years. ;D

We are using a Roadmaster Stowmaster on our Wangler.  The one I bought came with base plates and mounts for a Honda Civic.  I used the Base plates and custom mounts for the Wrangler to better match the tow height of our U320.  I am using an NSA Readybrake receiver. 

Of all the options I looked at this gives me the most flexibility.  No modifications to the coach brakes.  Easy to adjust braking forces.  No significant mods to the Wrangler.  Brake light diodes are in the Wrangler wiring. 

I can tow the Wrangler with anything that has a 2" receiver and still have brakes and lights which I have done on several occasions.

I also put in the breakaway system that comes with the ReadyBrake.  We use a coupler lock so no one can just tow our Wrangler away.  We also use a padlock in place of one of the locking pins that holds the Stowmaster on the Wrangler mounts so it cant be removed either. 

After some practice we can just drive up behind the coach an connect within the adjustments available in the Stowmaster maybe 4 out of 5 times.  Total hook up time is maybe 5 minutes.  We always do a lights check.  We each check the hand brake, transfer case and transmission settings before driving off.

Kevin, I too used a Stowmaster for several years. It is simple and reliable. I don't know where you are but I just acquired a Stowmaster I need to get rid off cheap. I am in St. Augustine, FL for a while. If you are close and interested send me a PM.

We have a Roadmaster all terrain and will switch to a Blue Ox when we change toads next.  Nancy reminds me frequently about me how much simpler the Blue Ox is to use...
