CO detector add on

Need some advise on CO2 detectors. I have no problems with my installed detector, but was wanting to add another stand alone battery operated one as extra protection. Is there a good one I can get at Wal-Mart, Lows, etc. What should I look for in brand, quality, etc.
Thanks for your input.

Consumer reports rated this as the best.

First Alert CO615

Lowes has it for about $40.00

I think you want a CO (carbon monoxide) detector.

And remember that they have a life expectancy of 3 to 5 years.  Your smoke and lp detectors also have short life expectancies.

Thanks Keith, I forgot about Consumer Reports. I think the CO410 would be better (battery operated) because of the lack of receptacles close to the floor. The few I have are all about waist high.

You are right George, I meant CO detector.

Thanks all.

I suggest getting one that displays the level of CO on a digital display. That way you can monitor lower levels that don't set off the alarm. I have one in the bedroom at eye level and like to check it when the hot water heater and/or furnace are running.

(karma to Berry & Cindy for this advise)

Nothing detects killer Carbon Monoxide except detectors. If there is an undetected serious CO problem that occurs while sleeping, one may never wake up.

We recommend battery operated CO detectors with digital display. We have two CO detectors in our bedroom, one of each of the following purchased at Home Depot / Lowe's:

http://www.kidde.com/Documents/900-0146%20sheet.pdf

We like redundancy for such an important life saving device.

CO detectors start a non-resettable count-down timer when first turned on and in 7 years the detector will automatically stop working and display an error code.

Thanks everyone for the advise. looks like I will be heading for Low's when I am at camp forteavel next week. I really like the idea of having at least one in the bedroom where I can check it during cold nights.
