Question about HWH jacks.

Just called HWH.  She says it will be 2 weeks before the tech dept can call me. (very busy)
'94 - U225 - Let the jacks down on a my gravel drive (yep - wrong).
They extended, then the coach rocked backward.  The bottom of the jacks were pointing toward the front of the coach.
I was able to retract them.
I was able to extend them again.
I'm assuming now that I need 'support' under the 'feet' any time they are not on concrete ?
THE QUESTION:  What all did I screw up ?

With the HWH kickdown jacks you may or may not have done any damage.  Crawl under and check (it is safe-- no air system to possibly fail).  It is quite possible that they just went to the "stow" position, even though the pistons were still extended.

And do NOT every get the rear wheels off the ground.  If you must park/camp where it is that out of level, use boards under the wheels to get closer to level and/or park "nose down".

On our 93 u225 I did the same thing...twice...i know, i know...had the coach another two years and never had a problem with the jacks.

And do NOT every get the rear wheels off the ground  DID that one also...BUT only once and caught it quickly.. Not to many things I haven't done wrong.....but....sure learned a lot...

Those jacks are designed for roll-off. No harm done.

I did the same once on my old 93 GV and bent a piston shaft. Took it all off and had another shipped out. All ok after that and never did it again. I was on a bit of a slope and rears came off ground-oops

It seems to be OK.  Have 2X6's under the front,  back is so low can't get anything under them, maybe some 1/4" steel plate ?
I'm not sure what happened,  don't believe any tires came off the ground,  it was fairly level, the back just needed to come up a little.
I think maybe the gravel started giving way and the jacks kept trying to get the back up ???

One more thought.
The thing that worried me the most:
The coach rocked backward - pushing the jacks the wrong way............~JL~

exactly the same as I had reported, but there is room for them to do that if I remember right, so you may be ok

I carry a large capacity screw jack for the times I can't slide my large 1-1/2 thick wooden pads under the rear passenger jack. I place the screw jack under the hitch receiver and crank it up just enough to get my pad under the jack pad. Never raises the tires off the ground but just raises the chassis enough.

My question about HWH jacks is: Where is the reservoir? I've been told that it's at the front under the hood on the passenger side but I cannot find anything that looks like a hydraulic pump/reservoir there. Perhaps if someone has a photo I could figure it out. :P

Look under the coach, just behind the front bumper and just off center to the passenger's side.

Much easier to access if you remove the couple of screws holding in the right side grill.

The thing is a flat sided welded box thing, not a "normal" looking tank.  Mine had the pump near, and about a 1" cap to remove for filling.  As Brett suggested, remove the grill to be able to do much work or check and refill.

Dave and Brett... thanks. The description and location will help. I've been looking at the far side (passenger) for it. I'll take another look today if I get a chance. Turns out I have to do that 4-letter-word-ending-in-K thing today.

Exercise them well and keep them clean!!!  My two rear jacks (HWH AP8125) are completely seized up and need replacement.  A pair cost $1700, and they are remaned, not new.  Just got the word yesterday.  Going to go without until I find a deal on ebay or somewhere!!!

I exercise but don't clean them.  Haven't really noticed that they need cleaning.  What is the proper procedure?  I have had to take one off to have a crack in the housing welded.  Was leaking fluid during use only and I thought it was a fitting or the cylinder itself but hydraulic repair shop found the housing cracked.  Taking one of those heavy jacks off and reinstalling a bit of work.

Just wash the dirt off of them with a high pressure water spray.  Wipe the piston shaft off with WD-40.  You can wipe them down with Dexron or Multipurpose transmission, but you get that when they are operated..  Do not use silcone spray or anything that will build up a coating on the shaft!!!

My HWH remanufactured RAP8125 jack assembly  should be around $550 dollars plus shipping each.  Can add a hour labor to that for installation.  That is just one side!!!  For both, I looking at $1100  plus shipping, plus labor.  Spent enough money this year on her.  So we will be going as she sits.

The repair shop fixed it for much less than that.  Take them into a hydraulic shop.  You might be surprised that they can totally rebuild it way cheaper.

Have had two shops tell me no way, that I need to replace them cause they are completely seized up.  And neither one had anything to do with camping world.
