Safe will not open--Help

My safe was hard to open last time but now (I know I have the correct nrs ) it will not open.
It is the one with the electronic nrs on the round black face on the left side of the bed.  Being electronic is there a battery that needs replacing?  If so how do you do it as it is locked shut?
I see a red light flashing once in a while so I know there is still some power there.  I have pushed in the nrs but no luck.  Thought I would let it sit and try again.  DAN

OK  Tried again.  It is a "Defiant Safe"  This time as I pushed in each nr a red light blinked,  Then at the end a continuous blinking.  But the handle would not turn to unlock.  Everything appeared normal until I tried to turn the handle.  Letting sit again.  DAN

Dan,

Sorry to hear about the problem.  The best solution is over in NAC, on the front line, east side of the showroom.  Someone from the sales forces can surely help you with a new safe attached to a new coach.  Some things are just meant to be replaced due to age.

Dan, have you changed the batteries?  On the bottom side of the keypad, there is a small pullout that holds a 9v battery.

Also, per Carol S, giggle the handle, enter the code, giggle the handle again and the thing should open!  Carol and I speak often when each of us try to open our safe in our 2002.  Actually we should give each other our combos as we can never remember our own!

Just make that a small condition of the sale of course.

I know of one owner who bought his U280, and asked about the safe.  The sellers showed where it was, as well as where the combination was recorded, and said it was empty, as they never ever used it.  A long time latter he got around to opening it, and found what he guessed was his discount.

We bought our U295 last April, and learned the combination.  In July I had a packet of cash to pay for the new exhaust manifold and gasket work when we went to pick up the coach in Port Aransas TX.  I thought, nice time to use the safe.  But before adding my cash, thought to try to open it, after closing it.  Glad we did, as we could not open the thing with the RLR instructions.  We learned it is LRL and more to open from members on the forum.

Hopefully someone has replaced the battery, and it is an outside job.

Got it open!!!! :D ;D :)) Now what did I do differently?  I hit the pound or nr sign first, then put in the nrs.  Opened.  Shut and opened again same way.  Never had to put in the pound sign first before.  Not sure what gives with this safe but now is working.  DAN

Txforetravel:  Tks I am going to look at changing the battery.  By the way, had to replace the front arm on the awning at Foretravel.  Jimmie at Zip Dee said to call him anytime I need parts in the future as they have changed the interior of this arm.  He indicated he has lots of parts.  DAN

Dan... in the thread below, Dick (who has an '03) has a PDF to download about battery changing.  And, scroll down further in the same thread for a link to Barry's site with additional battery changing information:

Yes the combo can be changed at any time.  If you know the current combo.

Tom,

For the electronic safe when the battery goes dead, it usually does not change the combination.

The old mechanical ones should be easy to change if you have a change key for the lock. I assume a locksmith would have the correct key.
