Re: C-8.3 mechanical engine turbo & fuel changes Reply #25 – November 19, 2013, 03:26:39 pm Quote from: AC7880 – November 18, 2013, 11:24:52 pmI did mods of a #10 fuel plate, and muffler (resonator), and star wheel adjustment on my 1994 Bluebird BMC 37'. Spartan chassis, Cummins 8.3 turbo mechanical engine, MD3060 Allison trans. I have an extensive thread (11 pages) that includes discoveries, discussions, and dyno charts of the results. Thread here: Brazel's Performance RV (BMC Service) - Wanderlodge Owners GroupLater I added pyro and boost gauges discussion here: Recommendations for boost/pyro gauges? - Wanderlodge Owners GroupI also bumped up the timing 2.5 degrees later.I'll post this, and in the next post see if I can add attachments of the dyno chart results. When you bumped the timing what was it set at before the bump? I bumped from 12.5 to 16.5 on 97 dodge 12 valve and This made more Power and dropped my EGT by 200* @ WOT. Just curious if the 8.3 is set at 12.5 just like the 5.9s Quote Selected

Just curious if the 8.3 is set at 12.5 just like the 5.9sAs I understand it, not all 8.3s have the same factory timing. I went back in my notes and stock on this 8.3 was 12 degrees, and I bumped to 14 degrees (2 degrees - not the 2.5 I mentioned earlier) Quote Selected
Re: C-8.3 mechanical engine turbo & fuel changes Reply #27 – November 20, 2013, 02:53:41 am PatC,For sure, that is exactly why I only took my ISM450 to the ISM500 setting, so have Cummins blessing so to speak. The resonator I used was the Walker job, it is not chromed, nor polished, it is not in view of passer by types and I still have not found paint and chrome does anything for performance, so I tend to avoid it around engines, just go with what works best. Re: C-8.3 mechanical engine turbo & fuel changes Reply #28 – November 20, 2013, 08:44:38 am We had our turbo / injector pump modifications done today. Without yet putting it all to a test, especially towing and running hills / mountains, we now find much faster and smoother go from a stopped position. Seems to have a little lower exhaust gas temps and we have seen max boost increase form about 18-19 to about 22-23. Don't know more at this time, but we have seen a change.Turbo waste-gate was adjusted to increase max turbo.Injector pump was adjusted and King Control cable slack removed. We will let you know more over the next few months as we move about in Texas, and next year if we head west for a mountain climb test. Thanks to all for a quick response and a good sharing of your personal experiences.Barry & Cindy Quote Selected

Re: C-8.3 mechanical engine turbo & fuel changes Reply #31 – November 20, 2013, 11:36:17 am Barry and Cindy- while you are trying it out next year in the west on hills drop by here for a visit and we can take off the muffler and do a resonator install, along with anything else you want from underneath!JohnH Quote Selected
Re: C-8.3 mechanical engine turbo & fuel changes Reply #32 – November 20, 2013, 08:03:18 pm Barry & Cindy already had removed OEM muffler and installed Aero turbine 5" resonator. We made the change last year and found it improved performance and gave us back the pep we lost when changing our tow car from a 2002 4,200-lb Jeep Grand Cherokee to a 2012 5,400-lb Grand Cherokee. We kept our 4" pipe attached to turbo and 4" chrome tip that goes through the fiberglass hole. All other parts in between are now 5".We know John will still welcome us even though we have a resonator, if we ever make it back to BC. Quote Selected
