LP Regulator for, Onan Petrol Generator, 1989 Grand Villa,

My Genny is an Onan Petrol motor, 6.5 Generator, Running Exclusively on LP Gas,

The Bearing in the back of the Generator was totally Past it, It had balls missing from it, Finally got the old one out with out removing any thing from the motor, I even had a brand new bearing the right size sitting on the shelf,
So Thats Fixed,
Try running the motor, Its on the bench in the garage, It wants to go, But no gas getting through,

Pull it all apart, Need a new Diaphram and Gaskets for the LP Regulator, Every thing else seems fine, Spins over quite well,
Nothing in OZ like it,  Hello FooooorrrreTravel,

Billy Jack on the Blower, Nope, We havent had that part since about 1994 when we went to Diesel,

Now what do I do,  ????????

Well Billy Jack from Foretravel Kindly got onto Cummins who now own Onan, They dont make that Regulator any more, My one,

But we do have one that replaced the one you have, Beauty, Send it to me, As They dont have the gaskets or the diaphram for my unit,

Almost $1200-00 and a week later, Its here, Its a much smaller unit then mine, I hope it works, I cant send it back,

When out this evening and hooked it up temporarily to a gas bottle and a battery, Touched the wires together to make it turn over,
Its turning over, Nothing happening, Brian is not Happy,  Start turning it over again, It starts and runs like a chaff cutter,

It hasnt run for at least two years, Then it cleared its throut, Revved up, and then settled down to a quiet running Mode with out missing a beat,

Brian is now a Very Happy Chappy, Yeah, The Genny works,

1989 Grand Villa, 36 ORED,

Generator, Gen 111 LP Regulator,........ 1481067....  Is the new part number for the Regulator for it,

I can also give you the part numbers for the Elbows that fit it, Barry, Are you interested in them for your collection,

Now to find some one that can put all these wires back into it, Its Beyond me,

Cheers,
Brian,

I have had to rebuild my the regulator on my propane-powered Onan. Onan doesn't make the regulator. It is an Impco J-model that are commonly used on forklifts. The kits are available on Ebay. The kit may come with some different colored springs to replace the old ones. Different colors have different rates of compression. The rate of compression may be .05 and is listed on the regulator, but I forget which color.

If you are not up to the task rebuilding and cleaning, the price difference between a rebuild kit and a new regulator is roughly $25.

I think that Mr B's generator is a vapor regulator rather than a liquid regulator

Thats what made it hard here, They are liquid Regulators here only,

Vapour is unheard off, Unless its a B-B-Que, Thats Vapour,

Cars are all Butane Liquid regulators,

B-B-Que Is Propane and Vapor,

My Coach is now all Propane on B-B-Que Gas bottles X 6, Including the Genny,

I am getting there, Slowly,

I could not get a Diaphram and gasket for my Generator as they just dont make them any more, So I had to get the new regulator to suit,

The Coach is still bogged on the ramps, Needs jacking up and packing under the wheels, Then it drive off,

Does your 6.5 Onan slide out so that you can get to it??  I have an Onan 6.5 in my 91 GV and I haven't been able to determine how it racks out.  Thought I'd better get this figured out so I can rack it out this spring.  Thanks and have a great day  ----  Fritz

If I remember correctly there should be several bolts that go through the angle iron support. You have to disconnect the muffler and then there is a horizontal bolt to back out and unhook the wiring and lp and the generator should slide out.

The frame and cover come out in one piece, with the motor still bolted to it, Its very heavy,

one bolt in the middle of the deck at the bottom, front and back, the whole lot slides out, Remove the exhaust tail pipe first, It comes out with the exhaust still on,
Disconnect gas line and electric cables, Earth strap, Remove from vehicle,

You can also drag the Genny out about half way with out disconnecting any thing, which allows you to work on it,

You must remove the two bolts holding it in tho, Before it will go any where,

Just make sure the gas and electrics have enough slack in them to do so,

You need to tie the door cover up to the motor, Other wise it drops straight down and hits the floor,

Make sure you put the two bolts back in and do them up tightly, The ones in the floor plate,

If you forget them, The Genny will slide straight out onto the road, Not Recommended,

It puts big dents in the road, Could possibly take out a parked car, Certainly kill any pedestrians or animals it hit,

Very expensive outcomes, It would certainly take the Glitz out of your retirement package, Hahahaha.

Make sure those two bolts are done up tite,

Fritz,
I use the local onan generator dealership.  All they do is generators, usually for prisons, hospitals, and police depts, etc.  I've tried others and others (rv dealers and the like) don't have a clue and are usually more expensive.

You may need lots of lubrication and elbow grease to just get it loose.

Its actually very easy, It just sounds complicated,

Remove two bolts, It slides half way out, Simple,
