McKinney weather

We have a long-standing appointment to have MCD shades installed next week.  Now we're looking at potentially three days of sleet and freezing rain.  Right now we're in eastern Tennessee making our way west while watching the weather radar.

Is there anyone here in McKinney now?  How bad is it?  How can we get updates through the weekend?  It looks like we can drive in rain as far as western Mississippi and then wait and see.  We also worry about salt.  Our coach as never been driven in salt, although yesterday we did drive south from Pittsburgh on roads that had been salted during last weekend's snow storm.  This inch of rain we're expecting today should wash any residue off pretty well.  How heavily are they salting the roads in northeastern Texas?
Regards,
Brett

Try a couple of the local news station websites

Power outages, treacherous driving greet North Texans this morning | Local News

The major roads (like Interstates) will see some sand.  Texas does not have a lot of sanding equipment, though, and secondary roads can sometimes be left to melt on their own.  Beyond driving, winter storms usually mean heaving coatings of ice that wreak havoc with power lines, tree limbs, etc., that result in major power outages.

TV is showing 3-5 vehicles moving on highways that should be grid locked, 5 lanes full.  Empty or blocked bridges and ramps, will all be fine in a day or two.  Time is your friend and all this mess will melt once the moisture moves north east.

We (well, right now Steve and the Posse are) about an hour southwest of McKinney.  Here is a photo of our patio Steve took this morning - that is solid ice such as forms in a non-frost-free freezer :o

Michelle,

When we went by your area a couple of days ago the fog was so thick we didn't see the ground looking like that. Very thankful for that. Hope the posse stays inside and safe.
