Anti-Rattle, Anti-Chafe Tow Hitch Receiver

As Barry and Cindy (and others) have pointed out, it is well worthwhile preventing the wear and tear on your drive train and your various hitch parts (that are chafing under toad or trailer loading).  It may not be readily felt on a large coach, but it is still doing continuous, unnecessary damage whether it be slight or significant.

There are many towing hitch receiver "Anti-Wobble", "Anti-Rattle", stabilizer options available.  Some are easy to use but only fit certain receivers due to clearance/dimension issues.  Some are more universal but have several different parts and therefore complicate the steps necessary to install (which demotivates routine use).

Being a KISS sort of person, I'll suggest a solution that works flawlessly under a myriad of hitch receiver designs/dimensions, hitch pin dimensions, etc. and is so easy to use that I'm seldom tempted to not use it.  I've used mine for more than 30 years (pictures attached)
.
If you are handy and can weld (or have a welder friend available) it's easily built.  Just slice off a leading corner wedge from a (square faced) receiver insert, square up the pieces with a grinder, weld a nut into the removed (sliced) wedge, add a threaded rod and another (welded) nut (on the face of the square-faced receiver) and it's done.  No missing "pieces parts" to keep track of,  or assemble, installs in seconds, doesn't move one iota, even under long term use, and is easy to remove/transfer.

Oh.  I don't know where you can buy one.  I think you'd have to make one yourself (or have one made).  It shouldn't cost you more than $10 beyond the cost of the receiver.

Just a KISS option for your consideration.

Just FYI, the pics came through fine for me, so they have, in fact, been posted OK ...... matter of fact, Neal's write-up and the pics now reside in my RV folder (actually in a sub-folder called "Really Neat Stuff").  I have seen a lot of good hitch snugger designs on Foreforums and elsewhere; but this one tops 'em all for me.  It even puts the "store bought" one I have for my bike/ski carrier (a fancy "Thule" design) in the shade IMHO.  Thanks, Neal
