Aqua-Hot by a newbie

Well we made it to Ky thru 3 days of thunder storms and hi winds. Was really kind of fun. Our new to us 2003 U320 38 f handled it with ease.

My question on the 38 ft there is only one thermostat in the head for the aqua-hot right? I will try to limit my questions on items with no manuals, Thanks, Tom

Tom, yes, usually there is only  thermostat for a Dometic system of your vintage.  If you have two or more zones, the thermostat can be switched for individual control.  However you cannot set it to furnace on one zone and cool on another - both must be set the same.

I don't have AquaHot, but have seen a number of misc. controllers before.  Have seen one in the basement, the bedroom, the bath, and the saloon.

The one in the bath is for that zone and the basement. Look at you dometic up front for the other zones.

Tom7, there is one on the bulkhead just behind the drivers chair, right below the cabinet.
I have the same coach so should be the same.

I always refer to Rudy's explanation on how aquahot works for the basement and bathroom:

Yetch, Eric & John,

The bathroom thermostat controls heat in the bathroom only.  The basement thermostat controls heat in the basement only.

Now the coolant loop supplied by pump 2 goes to the bathroom fan coil and to the basement fan coil.  So if either the bathroom or basement thermostat calls for heat, pump 2 supplies hot coolant to both fan coils.  ONLY the fan of the thermostat calling for heat turns on - not both fans.

With the bathroom thermostat set to as low a temp as is possible or even disconnected, the basement thermostat can turn on pump 2 and the basement fan.

Hope this helps you all.

Tom7,
To specifically answer your question, yes there is only one thermostat for heating the bath area.

Yes but the bathroom pump has to be turned on for the basement to get heat.  The thermostat for that is in the monobloc compartment but even set high nothing will pump unless you turn on the bathroom.

My 03 works as Rudy explained. I can have basement heat without bathroom heat and bathroom heat without basement heat.  Thermostats are independent but share a pump.

But that zone has to be on to get basement heat.  So if you do not have it on it will not pump.  I had no heat in the basement or bath as the relay for that pump went off. They are on seperate thermostats but you have to have that zone on to get the pump to work. I have to have zone two on to get the basement to work. I can set it upstairs at 50 and never have the bathroom come on but it has to be on for the pump to work.

The Aqua Hot heaters in pre-2003 Foretravels that do not have an electronic control board have the utility bay thermostat wired to directly turn on the utility bay fan coil and pump two.  This thermostat which is located in the basement bay does not use any of the three zone relays located in the heater just below the fuse block.

No interior zones need to be on to have the utility bay active.  But the Diesel Burner and/or Electric Element must be on or there will be no heated coolant available to heat anything.

To test my 99's basement heaters (one hidden behind the wet bay panel) I immersed the temp sensors in some ice water. Almost immediately, the fans came on and the compartment was bathed in warm air. Pretty neat.
