Water problems update

Since I've gotten some private messages about what I've learned about our issues, I thought I'd put a summary in a new thread.

1. Leak. We've been living almost full-time in the coach for a couple of weeks now, and have filled the fresh water tank a few times. When it is nearly full I find water on the floor of the fresh-water tank bay on the street side. After the level drops some I have no more water on the floor. I'm going to experiment with how full I can fill the tank before I get water on the floor and keep the tank level below that point until I can find more of an expert than me to diagnose it. The tank is large enough that we ought to be able to get along just find with a tank that is only 3/4 full at most.

2. Water pump. No changes in that regard. The pump that came with the coach was starting to fail, according to the shop where I took the coach, so they replaced it. I've checked all the threaded connections and tightened up a couple. No water on that side of the bay. The pump will come on for a few seconds every 30-40 minutes when no water is being used. Since we are using more water now, there are few times when we go that long without using at least some water. We generally keep the pump off, though, unless we're going to be using water several times in a short period of time. The pump is off when we leave the coach and at night.

3. Hot water heater. The last couple of days we've had hot water when we first get up, so obviously it is working properly now. We'll just keep watching it.

If both old and new pump are cycling every 30 minutes or so and you can not account for the usage (you, ice maker, etc) you have a leak.  At least it would be very hard to believe that two pumps both had back check valves.

Also, while maintaining potable water tank below 3/4 may keep it from leaking now, sloshing while driving may cause it to leak.  This really needs to be fixed-- a water leak right above the rear bulkhead is NOT good.

What he said. Our waterpump cycles not at all, and a tank leak is not to be tolerated. My old rig had one where the top level sensor plugged in, and some "through the roof" sealant put a permanent end to it. Best of luck finding the leak.
