Dish Tailgater Satellite TV Special

PPL has offered the Dish Network Tailgater for some time at $269. We bought one last year and have been very happy with it. Now, they are including a 211K receiver in a $299 package. These are advertised as refurbished but I could see nothing on the package or Tailgater indicating it was refurbished. It gets excellent HD and the coverage extends at least a couple of hundred miles down into Mexico. We had no trouble with reception there and no dropouts. We have a small 25 foot reel of RG6 that is super tidy and good for most of our campsites. Also carry a 50 footer for locations where we have to place the Tailgater further away to clear trees, etc.

90 day warranty on both but saves $200. Can use with home account or pay as you go Dish Network RV service.

I ordered one today. Was going to wait but this is a pretty decent price and since we already have Dish it means we can enjoy it while we're in the motor home.

We just went through 10 days with a defective Hopper; the HD reformatted itself twice and never fully recovered. We thought that it might reformat again but it didn't so we asked them to send us a new one. If we had the Tailgater we could have just walked 1-1/2 blocks to the motor home and made popcorn and watched the two programs the DW can't live without.

How does one sign up after buying the components from PPL?

I went to dishformyrv.com, but it wants to sell me the components unless I have service with Dish now.

Call PPL at 1-800-755-4775 or 713-988-5555. Dish just wants the high markup for themselves. PPL will have all the answers.

I originally bought a Craigslist dish and then found a new 211K receiver on ebay. When the receiver came, another arrived the next day. Seller sent two but said not to worry about it. Had no problem signing both of them up. 

Only problem I ever have is when I have not used the Tailgater for a while. Because of so many pirate receivers, Dish changes codes every few weeks so when ours does not work, I have to call them, give them the account and receiver serial, they authorize it again and it works fine. Not so fine if you don't have phone service at the time. I just make sure to check before we head out on a trip in case I have not used it in a couple of weeks. Now, I just tell the operator that I need a "hit" so it does not waste either one of our times.

The 211K has the software to identify and work with the Tailgater out of the box so there will not be any compatibility issues.

The HD is great but you need a HDMI cable from the receiver to HDTV to get 720P. I use a HDMI switch with remote control so we can watch 1080P from the BluRay players or other sources like laptops. Cheap and saves having to run two or more cables.
